The CMBE Booster is designed for domestic and commercial water supply, pressure boosting, irrigation and dewatering applications. The CMBE series uses energy efficient, permanent magnet motor technology, which provides unmatched reliability, quiet operation, and energy savings. Thanks to the integrated speed controller, the CMBE keeps a constant pressure in the pipe system. A pressure sensor monitoring discharge pressure will signal to the speed controller to change the motor speed to adapt the performance to the new situation.

Q:Is there a reccomended flexible connection, a particular supply with a male connection? Or just use a nipple?

A:  No there is not. I have installed these and not used one however I have always installed them using soldered copper L tube, and secured them to the floor. The flexible connection is recommended as what is cold a vibration isolator. It will insure that the torque generated when the unit starts does not cause the pipe to break and result in a flood. Vibration isolation is a best practice. However the vibration generated is going to vary by application. Thus on some installations it will be critical and on others not so much.

    A:  Pumps are not rated in horsepower.; motors are. Yes it is true that you will see horse power ratings stamped on the side of pump boxes all the time. but at best it is the rating of the motor that drives the pump. You can have two different pumps with the same HP motor that will have drastically different performance. Pumps are rated on a graph called a pump curve. On one axis is the flow rate and on the other is the amount of resistance the pump is pushing against. This is usually in height, which is referred to as head. The graph shows the performance at different heights. If you look under "Info and guides" on the Home Depot product listing page you will see PDF's of a number of different publications concerning this pump. If you open the one labeled specification you will find the pump curves. As to your original question. I called the factory and the motor in this unit powered by 230 Volts would produce 1.5 HP. at peak out put.

        A:  This unit will maintain a higher pressure even when no demand is needed instead of allowing the inlet to bleed down to suction when no water is needed. A waste of energy. Who cares what the house pressure is when you do not need water? This product however allows the pressure to drop to suction when no water is needed and brings the pressure back to setpoint (a simple pressure knob) within 2 seconds of turning on a faucet. http://perfectpressurepump.net/

          A:  I hope i am not misunderstanding your question. All the pressure boosters I have dealt with over my career work exactly as you describe. The pumps only run when they need to. When there is no draw the pump is off, unless it is still in the possess replenishing its stored capacity. What makes the different Grundfos products unique is that the do not have a lot of stored water. Traditional pressure boosters would have a large diaphragm tank. a jet pump and pressure switch. Being the largest and most dynamic pump company in the world, Grundfos was able to build the controls and variable speed pumps that are able to accomplish the same thing as traditional systems but with less of a storage buffer. Remember this devise will increase pressure but not necessarily volume You can not draw a vacuum on a city water main. You receive the water at the rate the municipality or your well pump gives it to you. The only solution for lack of volume is storage. A booster only increases pressure. I say this because people often confuse the two. If you tell me the sprinklers don;t shoot fare enough because of lack of pressure this may help. If you tell me its because you don;t have enough water supply, than it will not. I have 120 PSI coming into my house. That is incredibly high. But my showers don;t look powerful and only one person can shower at a time because my supply is inadequate. Pressure is measured with a gauge, not by eye. Volume is measured with a bucket and timer. Once you know your base line pressure as well as supply in gallon s per minute, a decision can be made if you need a booster, storage or both. Half the boosters we sell, and that is from multiple brands come back. Usually the people say they leaked. What actually happened is there pressure was fine, say 45-60 psi. Once they added the booster the pressure went so high things stared to leak. It turns out pressure is often not the real problem. If you start by accumulating facts you can be more certain the plan taken will have a better chance of reaching the desired outcome.
