Thank you for the inquiry. These tubes do require a ballast.
Thank you for your inquiry. Please see compatibility chart. https://images.thdstatic.com/catalog/pdfImages/bb/bba74818-cd0e-4654-a730-6f95de936bb2.pdf
Thank you for your inquiry. Yes a ballast is required. No rewiring of existing luminaire necessary. Operates on instant start, programmed start and dimming ballasts.
Thank you for the inquiry. LEDs in general use a variety of internal components, one being the LED chips. These chips vary between products. The Plug and Play (Type A) lamp has different production and technical requirements than the Direct (Type B) lamp. While these appear to be the same lamp, they are different in the way the are manufactured causing power consumption to vary between the two. Also the Plug and Play (Type A) will actually consume additional power above the 13 watts listed as the ballast used requires power draw to run as well. The lamp itself only "consumes" 13 watts, but the ballast will use additional power. It varies based on the ballast, but a safe rule of thumb is around 2 watts for the ballast.
Thank you for the inquiry. Please review the compatibility chart below for recommended dimmers. https://images.thdstatic.com/catalog/pdfImages/bb/bba74818-cd0e-4654-a730-6f95de936bb2.pdf
It will fit in existing T12 lamp sockets without modification. Compatible with most recent instant start electronic ballasts. If your fixture's ballast is old, or is an old magnetic ballast, you may need to upgrade your ballast.
I hate to say, but it depends on the type of ballast. Some led bulbs only work with instant light ballasts. Only bulbs marked “universal” work with all of the different ballasts. I had to buy several different versions before finding one that fit.
Thank you for the inquiry. This lamp is made of glass not plastic. They are not shatterproof.
A better question might be, "If for safety reasons I need to be sure I have plastic on the outside, is it a suitable solution (as with fluorescent lamps) to use a plastic sleeve to enclose the lamp?" And do you sell such a solution?
Thank you for the inquiry. The bulb is dimmable with a compatible dimming ballast. The installation sheet is being updated.
