Testrite 2 in. PVC Schedule 40 Test Plug with Valve Fitting by Holdrite Packaging Contents: One plug with fitting First Impressions: Simple all-in-one tool Description: The company’s own description states: The Holdrite TESTRITE test wedges are used in conjunction with TESTRITE tees, which allow temporary blocking of the DWV stack for testing. TESTRITE test wedges meet plumbing code requirements and are rated up to 50 ft. of head pressure 22 psi 5 floors and perform up to 5 times faster than inflatable DWV testing devices. TESTRITE test wedges are removable and reusable and are available in 2 in., 3 in. and 4 in. Color: Gray. Very good instructions and packaging. Usage: As mentioned before, this works in conjunction with the same-branded TESTRITE tee. The tee comes with the spanner ring to hold it into place. Whether you are a professional or are simply building your own home to code, this is one handy tool. It is used to make sure you have no leaks in your DWV piping. In general terms, it is normally used with the tee, which has already been installed low in the building. The plug is removed from the tee, along with the ring, and this device is simply placed in the tee. It is clearly marked as to which side is up. Then the ring is screwed back over the valve to hold it into place and keep it water-tight. Once that is done, there are two methods to fill the stack or whole system with water for testing. One is to go on the roof and fill the vent pipe to the top. The other is to fill the system with water from a hose attached to the valve itself. This can be left for the prescribed amount of time, and allows the plumber to check for leaks thru-out the building. The valve has two adjustments. First is the quarter-turn knob to allow water from a hose to enter the system. Second is that the whole stem unscrews to a stop and allows the whole stack to drain out the septic system right thru the inner part of the tee itself. No fuss, no muss. The system only requires their own tee to be specified in the building plans at the lowest point. It shouldn’t cost an extra ten bucks. Overall Thoughts: Love it. Easy to use. If you do much new plumbing, it is a must-have.
