Can I use this fitting to go from 1/2" black iron pipe to ProCoat 1/2 in. FIP x 1/2 in. MIP x 48 in. Stainless Steel Gas Connector 1/2 in. O.D. (Model # CSSD54-48 X)?
Asked by: Jerry
Hi Jerry, No. This fitting is only applicable to HOME-FLEX 1/2" CSST. The flexible gas appliance connector that you referenced comes with adapters. The adapters are 1/2" Female pipe thread. Therefore the adapters will thread on to your 1/2" black iron pipe's male pipe threads. The other end of each adapter is male flare thread which the nuts on the ends of the flex connector will thread on to. Be sure to make all of your connections in accordance with your local codes. Be sure to test all connections prior to putting them into service. Be sure to use the proper thread sealant on the pipe threads, but not on the flare threads. For additional information you should reach out to the maker of the flex gas connector that you referenced in your question.

Do these female adaptors also perform the same function of a union?

Do these female adaptors also perform the same function of a union?
Asked by: FallingRay
Hi Hoodooyouknow, You could look at it that way. The Female Adapter simply changes the end of the CSST from an open tube to Female Pipe Threads. Once you have Female Pipe Threads, you can fit the CSST to Male Pipe Threads, such as on a piece of rigid pipe. Following the instructions, you would first thread the female pipe threads of the HOME-FLEX Fitting to your Male Pipe Threads, such as on your rigid pipe. Then, when you thread the nut on to the fitting that you had already installed on the rigid pipe, it would pull the CSST towards the rigid pipe in a straight line manner without any rotation of the rigid pipe or to the CSST. Here is a link to a video that shows what I am trying to describe: http://homeflex.com/installation/#videos

What adapter do we need change gas connection from 1/2" to 5/8 "

We paid for a delivery and installation of a new stove. We expected the installation kit to include whatever adapter they needed to handle the installation,. We were wrong. Now we are being told that we have to change gas line to 5/8". We want to just use an adapter. which one would we use?
Asked by: Roxanne
Adapters can be used to make the connection, but just because your new stove is hooked up does not mean that it will receive the proper amount of gas. If the manufacturer of your stove specifies a 5/8" connection, that means that the gas supply line feeding it must be 5/8" or greater. A 1/2" inch gas feed will not be able to deliver the same amount of gas as a 5/8" or larger gas line. If you were to use an adapter to step-up from your 1/2" gas line to a 5/8" gas appliance connector, it is most likely that your stove will not produce the maximum heat (BTU) that it claims it is capable of. I recommend that you follow your stove manufacturer's specifications and install a larger gas line to it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad Design I installed some 1" and ¾" Home Flex and it is almost impossible to have no leak fittings. I have 12 fittings in my house gas supply now and have spent hours trying to get them to not leak; per the 10 minute pressure holding test from International Building Code 406. I have tried other products, such as Pro Flex and it is much more robust and takes very little effort to ensure a leak proof seal. The Home Flex design basically has the last corrugated ridge to crush down on a rubber seal in the fittings. It is hard to ensure an even crush and even then it will seep a little, causing failure of the test. Also easy to over tighten trying to get it to seal and then the brass ring that hold the tubing to the fitting will bend and really cause a leak. Other manufactures use an O ring or a tapper of the tubing; both are much more reliable. Also, the yellow protective plastic will just break open when there is any bends in the tubing (much larger than the minimum allowable). Not a big issue, but looks terrible and no longer provides any protection. CSST in general needs a lot of extra care to ensure it is not damage throughout its life. I will not run ¾" or 1" inside walls because there is just not enough protection; requiring you to install dozens of striker plates or other devices and the 1" does not even have a protective sleeve offered. My use was a trial of this product and I absolutely hate my decision to try this junk. I thought Home Depot would carry a good product and it would be handy to most materials readily available. I am certified for installing this (off the Home Flex website) and I honestly do not believe anyone can make this stuff work well.
