The medallion opening can be enlarged to fit around a canopy using a sharp knife. You could easily cut the opening to the size you need.

What is the inner diameter? (not the hole for the wires, but the space between the molding)

My ceiling medallion is installed and I cannot measure it but I can tell you that the cap from your ceiling lamp should cover the center and it will also give you access to the electrical box for you to do your wiring.

How is it attached to the ceiling?

We recommend using a polyurethane construction adhesive. You can also drill pilot holes and screw it into the ceiling if you want it to be incredibly secure.

Simple and elegant. It was just the right size and solved my unusual drop ceiling problem. I wanted to keep my light fixture but didn’t have the space to drop it any lower.

This looks really nice, but let me possibly save you a lot of aggravation. If you are planning on using this with a ceiling fan, you'll probably need a larger one. Most ceiling fans have a canopy that screws into the mounting bracket right below the ceiling level (within 1/2 inch of the ceiling) and you need to get your screwdriver parallel to the ceiling, practically touching it. The decorative groove (don't know what else to call it) that sticks out on the medallion prevents you from accessing the canopy screws. With my fan, there was less than an inch of space between the edge of the canopy and the groove on this medallion. After hours of frustration, I was able to get 3 of the 4 screws in by holding the heads of the screws with pliers and using the pliers to screw them in. But the final screw wouldn't start, so I had to drill into the medallion so I could stick a screwdriver through. I'm going to cover the hole with painter's caulk. I had already done all the wiring so didn't want to disassemble and go get a bigger medallion. Plus, I didn't want a bigger one. I hope this helps someone else.

Quick Fix
I butched the ceiling while replacing the old small outlet box with a bigger ceiling fan box. I was dreading the drywall repair and just wanted to get the fan up. This was a quick cheap fix. I would recommend.
