Just purchased 14 in home lite chain saw. Did not have the problem with the same 14 in homesite chain saw that I wore out before. It seems the tension knob is not tightening the chain on the bar. Help?

Homelite model ut43100 chainsaw stopped oiling after just a couple of hours total use. Unfortunately due to fact that my need for a chainsaw is limited, the warranty period has expired. Is there some way I can FIX THIS MYSELF? This is a common issue!

Two screws in the plastic body ruins the whole chainsaw
So the plate holding the bar to the chainsaw is screwed into the plastic body of the saw. This wasnt an issue until I needed to get aggresive with removing a live stump. Slowly the screws start to deform the plastic body and fall out causing the bar to move all over the place and now ill need to go buy a new chainsaw. This time itll be Bauer from harbor frieght for the same price I bought this in 2019. Really disappointing since everything else still works great just two screws and the whole thing becomes useless. Im sure if I dug i could find replacement parts for it but it seems more difficult than expected, oh well.

      For occasional cutter
Never used a saw before and this was easy to use. Used to cut down a small to med size tree due to root rot. Took a few breaks, notice the saw working hard. Probably worked it to the max... good saw for the occasional cutter. Or the one or two time med tree cut down. Took it easy n slow. Got the job done. Notice the bar oil going down quick, due to heavy usage. Didn't use ear plugs... but probably should have. Light wieght.

Cuts great, but started leaking oil all over me while cutting
got this 16” Homelite chainsaw about a year and a half ago. Cuts great. I’ve used it about six or seven times for cutting a small tree and some branches. Really enjoyed it, until today when it just leaked oil all over my pants while cutting, and quite a bit in 20 minutes sitting in the back of my car. Not sure if they’ve changed the model at all, but it looks the same since I got it, but I’ll probably end up throwing this away.

          Disappointed to say the least
I purchased a UT43103 Electric Chainsaw about a year ago and I was cutting a few limbs off of several trees behind my house yesterday and suddenly it kicked, then the chain started skipping. Took it over to the table and checked it over. Everything looked clear so I ran it again and it skiped so bad that after a few seconds it quit running/moving the chain. I can hear the motor running, but no chain movement, only a grinding sound. Pulled the outer cover and right-side housing, then the gear cover. Found the plastic drive gear is now toothless. Ok, so I am willing the buy the gear. But guess what? It’s discontinued, even though the saw is still being sold at Home Depot! I have had several Homelite products over many years that have given good service so I didn’t give it second thought and bought this chainsaw. So now I have a $100 dollar chainsaw that is less than a year old I will have to toss in the trash. I can’t believe you would discontinue a plastic gear. Oh well, I will start spreading the word that Homelite products should be avoided at all costs since they don’t even have plastic gears for current models!!!

            Plastic gears
It's very handy and easy to use. Will not last long. Not for extended use. The main gear is made of plastic and gets stripped by the main drive gear. See the picture.

Poorly designed - fails after use
This product has a poor design. The chain drive gear has two bearings. The inner bearing is firmly seated in a heavy plastic housing. The outer bearing is seated in the flimsy red cover. What eventually happens is that the red cover cracks allowing the bearing to move. At this point the product is un-repairable. I recommend buying a different product until the manufacturer fixes this design flaw.

                  Tree down and out
During Hurricane/Tropical storm Nicole we had a tree come down through our fence and onto the house. Thankfully no structural damage, just a steady clean up to get it all cut up. The Homelite went above and beyond to chop the tree up to get it all removed and cleaned up. Only a quarter of the oil was used which was awesome. All I would say it make sure your chain is tight enough, and make sure your cuts are clean so it doesn’t bog down or get stuck.
