A:  I do not believe so. It is designed to slightly compress a plastic line in order to seal, and it does a good job—no leaking. It is also designed to release the plastic line if necessary. But copper isn’t likely to seal and may not be held in place by the gripping “teeth” of the fitting.

            Answer This Question

A:  Hello, John Guest model # 803449 is suitable for connecting to a braided stainless steel refrigerator water line but we recommend checking the thread type for compatibility. This valve has NPT threads and braided lines typically have compression threads. If you have additional questions please don't hesitate to reach out to our technical support department at 877-700-4242. Best Regards,

            by|Nov 10, 2020

A:  The stainless water line is commonly Compression and not pipe thread. Check with the lines manufacturer to confirm thread type and size. You may need an additional adapter such as https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-1-4-in-OD-Compression-x-1-4-in-FIP-Brass-Adapter-Fitting-801189/207176825 to adapt the pipe thread to compression.

A:  That's what I did but it took an adaptor.

I used this as an above crawlspace shutoff for my refrigerator ice maker 1/4" flexible copper supply line. I had to use the Everbilt LFA-16 coupling to adapt to braided line to the refrigerator.

The device work perfectly for a shut off valve no leaks whatsoever. Simply inserted the quarter inch plastic wire line, and it sealed. Had to shut off the water main for this procedure of course because the stupid saddle valve installed on waterline would not shut the water off. I’m not sure if they’re even still sold in stores. I plan on replacing the whole assembly with a new line (not plastic) to the refrigerator in the future but in a pinch this device was a lifesaver. One additional copper fitting was used to reduce to 1/4 inch to new refrigerator line. Can someone please tell the designers of these products to produce a ball cock valve that screws onto a saddle valve fitting quarter inch??? It would make everyone’s life so much simpler. The saddle valve would still let the water out and you could shut the water line off at the exact same spot and install a quality stainless steel line to your refrigerator. Just a thought I hope someone’s listening.

Busted. This was made from super soft plastic. The treaded portion cracked and separated as soon as it had pressure from the water. Made a big mess. Better to buy one without threads
