NO! Please don't use ice cubes to water orchids! The ice cubes burn the root and they will eventually die!

What is the best way to water the orchid?

Put it in a jar of water (while it's still in the container) for about 15-25 minutes depending on how dry it is. Be careful not to get water between the leaves (if you do, use a paper towel to dry them the spaces off. Orchids tend to be prone to diseases but keeping the spaces between the leaves dry and using clean tools should ensure everything goes smoothly).

Yes, you can replant or repot the orchids.

my plant has accumulated a lot of water in its pot. How do I handle this.

Answer

Remove the plant from the pot and re-pot it in new potting soil to avoid it from root rotting. Drain the water from the used Orchid potting mix let it dry, once dried save it to reuse it later. Do not water your Orchid while it is in the decorative pot. Remove the inner transparent pot from the decorative pot and water that way water will drain out easily, set it for few mins so the water drains out completely and then place the plant back in the decorative outer pot. I leave my Orchids in the transparent pot I use the decorative pot only when there is a visitor.

Answer

Hi RJG. Thank you for your question. Yes, you can keep your orchid in a pot. You will need to avoid direct sunlight with your orchid. The optimum temperature for best performance should be between 65 F - 85 F and should never fall below 55 F. Always avoid drafts of any kind. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance. What happens when you put ice in a purple spots with white in a wood box.

The container must have hole(s) in the bottom so water can drain out. Use orchid bark mix to pot it in (not soil!). MANY excellent videos on YouTube, including from American Orchid Society on potting an orchid.

Just Add Ice brand always leaves the very dense plug medium from the seedling on the inner roots and this always results in root rot of all innermost roots. Aside from that, the plants are pretty healthy.

I love my orchid

I have purchased two orchids on two different shopping trips. They are both doing beautifully. The small one has had over a dozen long lasting flowers on two stalks. My new larger one is blooming fine and is the centerpiece of my dinning room table. Note: Flowers falling off are a sign of stress, and marketing orchids can stress them. If it strikes your fancy, buy it. Flowers falling off are not a death sentence for the plant. I found a color that I just love and snapped it up. The real joy of owing these plants is to watch it develop a new stalk, and bloom under your care (year after year). If you purchase a plant in the late spring, don't forget to protect it when you go from the store to the car, and into the house (put it in a bag) ,and don't expose to cold temperatures. The plant will do fine in time, just cut the stalk after it turns brown. Do an internet search on how to care for orchids. They are really easy to take care of.
