A:  You will want to be sure and get it below your frost line or you will have problems, if you're replacing an existing one you are kind of held to the depth of your existing water line. Personally, I don't like to bend over to turn my water on and off

        by|Dec 26, 2022

A:  You can certainly do that. The standard "above ground" height is 2', so you should get a hydrant that has a total length as long as YOUR buried depth plus YOUR above ground height, regardless of what the advertised "bury depth" is.

Q:Is a rebuilding kit available for this product?

A:  There is! But you are better off taking it to a machine shop for them to reseal it. I came home and yard was flooded from the seal breaking and being cheaply made in this product. The rebuild kit was a joke as well. Took it to the hydraulic seal company in town and they put the right seal in it . Been perfect since.

                Nice upgrade
I'd been using just a normal spigot attached to pvc until now. Had to turn it off during winter and cover with a bucket and old sheets. it was low to the ground, hard to see, easy to step on or run over. I bought this not because I have a deep frostline, but because I wanted a tall spigot. So I've got it about 2' deep and 4' exposed, and attached to a 6' U-post driven about a foot or so deeper than the hydrant pipe, to keep it stable. I had to take mine apart since I don't have a truck right now and couldn't fit the whole thing in the car to take to the hardware store to get fittings. That was a pain. It comes threadlocked together. I wouldn't advise disassembling unless neccesary. I put a valve on the end of mime so I have more flow control, and so I only have to turn the hydrant off during cold weather, and can leave it on the rest of the year. The hydrant did leak initially from the top where the actuator rod goes into the hydrant from the lever. Tightening the nut there a little fixed the leak. Also, if you disassemble it like I did, don't tighten it too much when putting it back together. If the lever is hard to push all the way down, it's too tight. I used ptfe thread sealant when reassembling, but something which both seals and locks the threads might be better instead. I'm not worried about mine twisting loose underground since it's affixed to a post.
