It sounds like the valve stops has worked slid off the body and just free turning. If you pull off the handle and sleeve you should see a plastic disc that will tell your valve where the shut offs are. I would turn off the water to the house just in case.

Hi Kim, this is Sarah with Kohler Co. I'm glad to answer your question. There is not a removable part in the cartridge that restricts the flow. Removing any piece from within the cartridge or showerhead would void the warranty. For additional assistance, please call our Customer Service team at 1-800-456-4537 (M-F; 8am-5pm CST). Thank you for choosing KOHLER.

I may be way off mark with this, but have you checked hot water flow from another faucet, perhaps a non-mixed hot water faucet? If your water heater is failing you might get similar symptoms as the water in the tank is not heated through. Hot water rises in the tank and produces the initial hot surge. I would expect this especially in a dual-element electric heater where the bottom element has failed.

Kim, my name is Jessica with Kohler Customer Service. I am happy to assist with your inquiry. If you are receiving low flow from your valve please verify that both water stops are fully open, check the flow of water without the internal components, do both inlets have good flow and ensure that the there is no more than 5 psi difference between the hot and cold supplies. Please contact our Customer Care Center at 1-800-4KOHLER (1-800-456-4537) if you have any further questions or concerns with your valve. Thank you for choosing KOHLER.

Hi, this is Laura with Kohler Co. I am happy to assist you with your question. Not at all; a rating is provided for 45 psi so you can determine approximately what your flow rate will be. At 60 psi, your valve will produce more than at 45 psi. Thank you for choosing KOHLER.

(What's this)
How to decide which Kohler valve body and which trim kit? Many choices! KOHLER Rite-Temp Pressure-Balancing Valve Body and Cartridge Kits with Service Stops. Other reviewers have already covered the quality of the part and the ease of installation (well, easy by plumbing standards - you still need plumbing skills). And we generally agree with them. But choosing WHICH valve body and a trim kit to go with it can be daunting given the wide variety and somewhat confusing model numbers. First the valve body - Our recommendation is to pay slightly more for one like this that includes the “service stops”, which allow you to shut off the water at the shower. Otherwise you have to turn off water to the house should you ever need to replace the cartridge - Cartridges should last a long time, but when they fail you’ll thank yourself for choosing this feature. “The “S” in the model number (K-8304-KS-NA) indicates the Stops. Model K-8304-K-NA (without the S) means there are NO “stops”. The next decision with regard to the valve body is to determine which type of plumbing connection you have or intend to use: The “K” models have 1/2" Universal NPT & direct sweat inlets & outlets. The “P” models indicate “PEX” and have 1/2" PEX Crimp (F1807 style) inlets and 1/2" Universal NPT & direct sweat outlets. The “U” models are a different “PEX” fitting and have 1/2" PEX Expansion (F1960 style) inlets and 1/2" Universal NPT & direct sweat outlets. Now for the trim kit. The good news is that Home Depot offers lots of great Kohler choices. And *most* of the Rite-Temp trim kits fit this valve body. Just don’t choose a trim kit with a built-in diverter, such as the “Artifacts Swing Lever 1-Handle Rite-Temp Pressure Balancing Valve Trim Kit”, model K-T72768-9M. Trim kits that have a built-in diverter require a K-11748 series valve body which specifically accepts the diverter. After you’ve chosen the style of trim kit you want, choose the finish. The choice of finish varies by trim kit, so if you have your heart set on a particular finish, you may need to be flexible in the choosing a style. Finally, determine whether you need a trim kit to control only a shower head OR control a combined shower and tub. Still not sure? Call Kohler customer service since their website can be a bit confusing.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am in the process of a bathroom remodeling and this Kohler temp. Valve Kit came I. Very handy. I am impressed with the wide range of faucets I can pair it with once I am ready to upgrade. I am always pleased with the brand. It has proven to be reliable and versatile. I have a few more projects to complete and will infact be purchasing more kits like this for future projects.

Customer review from kohler.com logo
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was really in need of this. Now I have less worry that my two year old is going to burn herself. The product looked nice and well made. Installation was easy. My husband did it for me. Fit like a charm and works like a charm.

The design of this cartridge does not allow you to get hot water (about 120F) as Kohler claims. I thought I had a defective cartridge and Kohler sent me a new one. My Thermapen registers about 102F and my bathroom sinks and other water supplies in the same bathroom get to about 118-120F-- a very big difference. So, if you get this assembly, you are going to be taking warm showers, not, hot showers, if that is what you like. The orange temperature limiter ring is useless because the cartridge starts and stops within its own limited range anyway. Like I said, the highest/hottest setting will get you around 102F, which during the winter is totally inadequate. I called Kohler many times (about 5x) and spoke most recently with a very nice rep that actually admitted that, by design, the cartridge has an "anti-scalding" protection built-in. What this means is that they just limit the hot temperature well below 120F (although they claim 120F is attainable-- it is not!). So, now I am stuck with a newly renovated bathroom, with this valve body and cartridge and would have to otherwise crack open my beautiful new shower to replace the whole body and cartridge assembly because there are no alternative cartridges that are comparable with this valve body. This cartridge needs to be re-worked or another alternative should be offered. Us "adults" know how to shower and don't need this idiotic temperature protection that ultimately makes it an ineffectual product.
