Kellogg Garden Organics Patio Plus Premium Outdoor Potting Mix is the perfect ready-to-use mix for all your outdoor container gardening projects. Specially designed with aged wood fines - it looks different than conventional peat-based potting mixes, but provides benefits much like the forest floor for growing annuals, perennials, vegetables, herbs and more. Wood fines help the soil retain more moisture, reducing the need to water frequently. It also attracts beneficial soil microbes which aid in resistance to plant pest and disease, helping plants thrive in their outdoor containers. We added natural fertilizers like bat guano, poultry manure and kelp meal to give plants a good start. But don't forget to add an organic granular fertilizer for extended feeding throughout the growing season.
  • Blended with aged wood fines that help reduce watering
  • Helps plants resist pest and disease
  • With added fertilizers: bat guano, poultry manure and kelp meal
  • Bigger, brighter plants - guaranteed

Questions & Answers

While potting should i mix this with something else or can i only use this in the pot?

Asked by: Sonu
Patio Plus is ready-to-use right out of the bag. No additional soil mix is required. We do recommend mixing in an organic granular fertilizer at the time of planting to provide a slow release of nutrients since these get used up by the plant over time. Edibles for example, are heavy feeders and will not produce a very good crop without adding nutrients through the growing season. Doing so will ensure consistent plant growth and yield. Apply every 5-6 weeks during the growing season. Supplement the granular fertilizer with an organic liquid fertilizer like Fish & Kelp every 2-3 weeks with your regular watering routine. This provides more immediate, plant-available nutrients. Using these two fertilizers in combination will yield the best results!

Studies show that by adding at least 3 inches of mulch will save 30% in additional water application.

How much should you, or shouldn't you, tamp down or compress this when planting a climbing rose in very large terra cotta pot (20 gallon pot, 22" high by 22" wide)?
Asked by: rory
I would add the potting mix and water to remove air pockets. If the pot sinks too much, add more potting mix. I find that after several months, adding more mix or repotting the plant also helps.

May I use this to plant succulents?
Asked by: Sil
You need a fast draining mix for succulents. Use a mix called Cactus mix. There are several brands. I have had success with 2 brands. I don't save the empty bags so I don't know which. Have fun!!
