Q:what does one chirp once in a while mean? Then the unit lights go off and nothing works until I change batteries, works about four weeks.

Answer This Question

A:  Hello. Is this one beep every 30 seconds, 2 beeps every 30 seconds, 1 beep every 60 seconds, or 4 beeps, a pause, 4 beeps, a pause? 1 beep every 30 seconds is an error mode. Please call us with the alarm in hand at 1-800-880-6788. 2 beeps every 30 seconds is the 10 year end of life of the alarm. It means it is time to replace the alarm itself and replacing the batteries will just delay and that will run out. 1 beep every 60 seconds is a low battery. Are you using the alkaline AA batteries recommended in the owner's manual? This unit has to have the brand and model of alkaline batteries listed in the owner's manual. Other batteries can be detected as low when they are not and may not last 6 months to a year. Also, we would strongly recommend the recommended alkaline batteries with a really good use-by date of at least 4 or 5 years out. Batteries with a use-by date of 1 to 2 years out can sometimes not be powerful enough for the alarm or not last 6 months to a year. 4 beeps, a pause, 4 beeps, a pause is the signal for carbon monoxide. Never ignore a CO alarm. A true alarm is an indication of potentially dangerous levels of CO. CO alarms are designed to alert you to the presence of CO before an emergency – before most people would experience symptoms of CO poisoning, giving you time to resolve the problem calmly. If you suspect CO poisoning, move outside to fresh air and get emergency help. When your carbon monoxide alarm sounds, perform the following steps: On the alarm, press the TEST/RESET button. Call emergency services; either 9-1-1 or your local fire department. Immediately move to fresh air; either outside or near an open door or window. Ensure that everyone in the structure has been accounted for. Do not enter the premises and move away from an open door or window until emergency services have arrived, the structure has been aired out, and the alarm has returned to its normal condition. If after following these steps the alarm still reactivates within a 24-hour period, repeat the steps and call a qualified appliance technician to investigate the structure for sources of carbon monoxide, and verify that the alarm system is functioning properly. Any problems should be immediately corrected. Feel free to call us at 1-800-880-6788 for more information

Q:Is this good for traveling when staying in hotels? Debating whether I would need gas and carbon or just carbon monoxide detection.

        Answer This Question

A:  Hello. Yes. And no. The unit takes a number of minutes to get a good accurate reading of CO. The unit is UL 2034 rated and therefore time weighted. This means there is a certain amount of time of constant exposure required for the alarm to go off at different levels of CO. At 70 parts per million part of air (PPM), the unit has to be constantly exposed for 1 to 4 hours before it goes off . At 150 PPM, the unit has to be constantly exposed for 10 to 50 minutes before the alarm goes off. At 400 PPM or higher, the unit has to go off within 4 to 15 minutes. It is not an alarm that can be taken from room to room to instantly detect carbon monoxide but if it stays in a room for a number of hours, it can protect you. Note the locations to avoid in the owner's manual. Improper location can affect the sensitive electronic components in this alarm.

          Alarm died after 1 month-
So I am a smoke alarm enthusiast and I collect smoke & carbon monoxide alarms & just today my Kidde KN-COB-DP2 just died on me, it did not even give the end of life signal. I expect at least ok quality from y’all but nope I get this- I will be replacing this with a First Alert carbon monoxide alarm that has better quality.

Super easy, not really an install. Pulled tab, inserted 2 AA batteries and plugged into wall. As long as light is green, I'm good. Will sound alarm if there's any danger. Super easy, super happy!

Ready to use out of the package. Simple installation. AC operation plus battery backup. Unit has a 10 year life span. Previous unit alerted end of life operation at 10 years and 1 month as designed. Unit is installed in a finished 2nd floor garage studio. Previous unit detected CO from backup generator running outside of garage at ground level. I trust the Kidde CO monitor. Based on experience with previous Kidde CO monitor, this unit should be fine.

Plugging in a few of these into wall outlets at strategic locations around your home, especially close to sleeping areas where they can be heard if the unthinkable happens, is probably the quickest and most effective route to high stakes peace of mind you can do for your precious family.

This alarm saved our lives Thanksgiving night. Around 10pm the Kidde alarm started beeping and the red alarm was flashing next to “Move to Fresh Air”. I checked my heater - it was asleep. Opened up the front door. Pressed the alarm reset and it stopped for 10 seconds then started beeping again. I took the alarm to the opened front door and pressed the reset. It stopped. Plugged it back in and it started beeping red. I changed the batteries and plugged it back in. Started beeping red again. It had to be defective! Just unplug it for good, I thought to myself. I felt fine. I checked my gas stove and one of the burners was in the "on" position! I am not sure how the knob got turned, probably when I started cleaning the kitchen at 5:00pm or when I finished it up at 9:00pm. We opened all doors and within seconds, the beeping stopped. 6 months ago, I had to replace the alarm because it had reached its end-of-life. I was so mad. I am glad I was not mad enough to NOT replace it otherwise we would possibly be dead! I can’t believe I almost unplugged it and ignored it. I am buying Kidde carbon monoxide detectors for Christmas presents for my family!
