About This Product

The NCVT5KIT includes a dual-range non-contact voltage tester with laser pointer and a GFCI receptacle tester. The NCVT-5A automatically detects and indicates voltage (12 - 1000V) allowing broad application. The RT210 will troubleshoot the most common wiring problems in standard and GFCI receptacles.

Highlights

  • NCVT-5A provides non-contact determination of AC voltage in cables, cords, circuit breakers, switches, outlets and wires, as well as AC voltage in security, entertainment, communications, environmental control and irrigation systems
  • Dual-range testing: select 12 to 1000V AC which is perfect for low voltage systems such as doorbells, environmental control or irrigation systems, or select 70 to 1000V AC which is perfect for detecting systems such as electrical mains supply
  • NCVT-5A delivers simultaneous visual and audible voltage indicators when AC voltage is detected
  • Audible voltage indicator beeps at a greater frequency the higher the voltage that is sensed, or the closer to the voltage source it is
  • Bright integrated laser pointer for identifying objects of interest at distance on the jobsite
  • RT210 detects the most common wiring problems in standard and GFCI receptacles
  • Works on GFCI outlets and confirms operation of the ground fault protective device
  • Conditions the RT210 indicates: open ground, reverse polarity, open hot, open neutral, hot/ground reversed

      Answer This Question

A:  Standard receptacles: 1. Verify tester operation by testing on a known live and correctly wired receptacle. 2. Plug tester into receptacle. 3. Compare the illuminated lights on the tester to the key code printed on the tester. 4. If the tester indicates that the receptacle is not wired correctly, consult a qualified electrician. GFCI Receptacles: 1. Check the GFCI receptacle user manual for information on how the specific receptacle operates prior to using this tester. 2. Insert the tester into the receptacle under test to check for correct wiring. Lights on the tester should illuminate. 3. Press the "TEST" button on the GFCI receptacle. Did the GFCI trip and the lights on the tester go dark? YES: Reset the GFCI by pressing the reset button. Proceed to step 4. NO: The GFCI is not operating properly or the receptacle is miswired. Consult a qualified electrician. 4. Press and hold the test button on the tester for 7 seconds. Did the GFCI trip and the lights on the tester go dark? YES: Reset the GFCI by pressing the reset button. The GFCI appears to be operating properly. NO: The GFCI is not operating properly or the receptacle is miswired. Consult a qualified electrician.

The Klein Tools, 2 piece, non contact voltage tester and GFCI outlet tester are already coming in handy around the house and the garage. The voltage tester lets you know if an outlet or a wire is live by both an audible signal and also a visual light. I never liked messing around with changing outlets or changing a light fixture, I was afraid I would get zapped! Even with the breaker turned off I was still uneasy. Now I can sure of the status of the wires by using this voltage tester. As far as the GFCI outlet tester, I am happy to report all my GFCI outlets are installed correctly. The outlet tester also can test the outlets for open ground, open neutral, open hot, hot and ground reversed, hot and neutral reversed, and if the outlet is correct. I am more at ease not using these 2 tools.

A great budget price point electric outlet tester. It makes perfect sense that the light output results are printed on the tester itself, my previous unit was not like this, and I ended up losing the card which showed what lights meant what. This sticker is permanent, so it will never get lost or wear off. This can also be used to test out GFCI outlets and pigtail cords. We also use this tester as an easy way to test extension cords in compliance with OSHA assured grounding rules.

This is a great combo. The NVC TESTER is awesome, you can detect low voltage as low as 12V and high voltage, it gives the option to select the voltage and it also identifies the voltage by different color. Use it daily for work, very happy with the product. It also has laser but don't really use it. The GFCI tester is another awesome product, have used it multiple times. Very happy with the combo. Can’t beat the price.

This is the typical high quality we have come to expect from Klein Tools. The laser pointer feature on the non contact voltage tester is even visible in bright rooms and from surprisingly long distances. Also the ncvt reads anywhere from 12-1000 volts safely. You can set it to 70-1000 for testing 3 way switches and the like where you don’t want it to be overly sensitive. The plug in tester is great for reading open ground, reverse polarity etc. it also features a gfci test button. Great set. Highly recommend!

I have a few different brands of non contact voltage detectors, but this one is my favorite. It uses regular AAA batteries which are easier to find. It also has a light that lights up when voltage is detected. Sometimes if the environment is loud, just an audible alert might not work. Since I do a lot of work around my house myself, the gfci tester works great also. It is a good way to make sure I have wired the outlets correctly when they get changed out.

Now I have a high end, voltage tester, but you have to clamp around the wire to test for voltage. Here we have a " non-contact voltage tester" and in the pictures we tested everything for the 240v Service conduit to a light switch and it's as simple as touch and it lights showing voltage. A true time saver for ensuring the power to the outlet, cord - whatever it is your working is off. I have used these wiring detector/testers for some time and as they put it (could not say it better myself): The "RT210 detects the most common wiring problems in standard and GFCI receptacles Works on GFI outlets and confirms operation of the ground fault protective device Conditions the RT210 indicates: open ground, reverse polarity, open hot, open neutral, hot/ground reversed". Just plug it in and the lights tell the story - testing the GFCI is just push the test button Don't really use the laser's much, but it has a good range and easily seen across the room. These are the details listed for the detector; 'Dual-range testing: select 12-Volt - 1000-Volt AC which is perfect for low voltage systems such as doorbells, environmental control or irrigation systems or select 70-Volt - 1000-Volt AC which is perfect for detecting systems such as electrical mains supply, NCVT-5 delivers simultaneous visual and audible voltage indicators when AC voltage is detected Audible voltage indicator beeps at a greater frequency the higher the voltage that is sensed or the closer to the voltage source Bright integrated laser pointer for identifying objects of interest at distance on the jobsite.' There you have it, great value for you buck, easy to use, and from a trusted name to boot.

This non-contact voltage tester indicates if there is a presence of a voltage between 12V to 1000V. This tool is only for AC current. This can be easier to use than a probe to find live voltage wire. It does not measure the voltage. It includes a laser pointer but I would have preferred a flash light. It is well packaged with a bonus GFCI receptacle tester; the GFCI tester covers almost all testing that I can realize for a GFCI circuit. situation. It comes with 2 batteries already installed. There is no off button and goes off on its own.
