Questions & Answers

Will this work with the Klein Tools AC Line Splitter (Model# 69409)? Is the Jaw Fork wide enough to fit around the side arm of the splitter?

Note, the AC line splitter is designed to work with clamp meters to allow the tesing of AC current on the line. Since this meter has a Fork rather than a Clamp, just want to make sure it will fit over the splitter. Attaching photo of splitter, but it may appear cut off and/or distorted due to the Home Depot app resizing.
Asked by: Dave
You'll have to make your own line splitter, which can be done pretty cheap

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This Klein Tools, CL360 200 amp AC open jaw fork meter is a great meter to have in your tool box for both the professional and the home owner. It can measure up to 200 amps with the open jaw fork which is handy to calculate power usage. The AC setting can handle up to 600 volts and DC up to 1000V. It has a audible continuity checker and measures resistance up to 60 Meg ohm. The backlit display makes for easy reading in low light conditions. There is even a non contact voltage tester integrated into the current jaw to test for a live circuit. I like the fact that the probe tips have protective covers that limit the metal exposure if testing higher voltages and can be removed to expose a longer tip to test a device like a wall outlet. This is a high quality professional meter which should last for years of use in even the harshest professional environment. I would highly recommend this meter as it compares and in some ways is better than many higher priced electrical meters I have used. This product is warranted to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of two years from the date of purchase.

Sliding the prongs over the conductor made taking readings easier than having to stab one of the conductors through the jacked. It is very easy to use and I like the value for the price. Very reasonably priced.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I received my Klein 200 Amp AC open jaw fork meter today, it comes with a nice carrying bag and a set of test leads. The meter is backlit with an LCD display that has a 15-minute auto off feature. This is an auto ranging meter with a data hold button which is very handy. The non-contact feature is nice to have to speed up testing wires especially in cramped or otherwise difficult areas (attic’s etc.). This meter claims to be able to with stand close to a 10-foot drop, that will probably come in handy for me. Overall a very easy to use meter with a lot of functions.

A versatile multimeter primarily for use by tradesman who service HVAC or generator wiring and not so much for use by the average DIYer since most of its functions can only be used when the cover plates come off and the raw wiring is exposed. If you don't have an intimate understanding of the difference between amperage and wattage, or ohms and continuity then a good number of the available functions might get you in more trouble then you bargained for. But if you are experienced electrically then this one tool will satisfy most of your troubleshooting needs in checking amperage draw, voltage level and drop, wiring continuity or resistance, including a proximity (non-contact) feature for detecting "live" wires where there are no exposed connections. You simply place one of the forks near the subject wire and it "beeps" if voltage if present. (In this case I actually prefer a smaller type probe (see photo) which allows easier access in tight spaces but if you don't happen to have one handy you can still test for it with this meter) In other words you have the features of what normally could be three separate testers in one unit. Saves time which is money in the repair business.

When I first opened the package on this meter I was impressed with the design. It fits well in your hand. The numbers are easy to read. The display screen has a backlight function. It comes with a nice case that holds the instructions, probes and the meter itself; and...it looks to be quite durable. You can easily measure volts (AC or DC) & ohms, using the probes, or simple non-contact connectivity with the jaw fork (useful if you just want to see if a particular outlet or lead is "hot"). ONE LIMITATION: The amp reading function (using the jaw fork) only works on a SINGLE wire. This limits the AMP reading function for when you are installing or troubleshooting breaker boxes, power outlets, switches etc. (i.e. you have to open up the outlet or switch cover). So...you cannot use it to determine the current draw of an appliance (like a refrigerator, or lamp, etc), just by placing the power cord through the jaws. An appliance has the ground, neutral, and HOT wires all bundled in the cord. If you are looking for a way to EASILY measure current draw or power consumption, there are other meters available to do that. At $75, its a bit pricey, but the quality looks good.
