what size screw to use

I'm going to use 3/4 inch wood to join half inch
Asked by: Fidel
Thank you for your inquiry. If you are joining a 3/4" piece to a 1/2" piece like you are referring to you will want to set your jig and depth collar to the 1/2" setting and then use a 3/4" or 1" screw depending on if your piece is a true 1/2" thick or if it is a little undersized.

What kind of driver bit do you use to screw in the screws?
Asked by: Niki
It is a square drive bit. Kreg Pocket-Hole jigs typically come with this bit as part of the kit, but they also sell them separately as well.

These always seem to be the right length for what I need. The coarse thread works great for softwoods and works on hardwoods too (but I prefer the fine thread for hardwood). The wide head sucks the the pieces you are attached together. I also like the square drive, probably better than phillips, these won't strip out on you. Very durable too, I have been using these for a couple of years and they hold great over time. You don't have to pre-drill with these but I think it is best-practice to do so in most applications.
