No. This is a non-woven porous material. if the treated lumber gets wet and the chemicals are going to leach in this will not prevent them from getting into your soil.

Pony up, buy the good stuff
Unless your willing to put down 4 or 5 layers (even that might not be enough) your still going to have to pull weeds. This product is great for keeping dirt out of your rock, but stopping weeds, it gets a big FAIL. Before we put in our landscaping, I would spend 30 minutes a week pulling weeds, after I spend 10 minutes a day. I have to move away the rocks from each weed, get a knife, cut back the fabric, pull out the roots, cut a piece of extra fabric to cover the hole I just made and put back the landscape rocks.

Not for grass?
I guess this stuff isnt suppose to keep grass at bay? It didnt make sense to me how this is suppose to work since its so transparent and it lets the light through. I figure since it got good reviews I would give it a try. Even with rocks covering it there is grass poking through. This barrier was only installed about a month ago. I guess we will see if weeds start to come through too.

I can not use this product for anything but its intended use. I called the maker and they were great to let me know that it is not advisable to use this product instead of "PELLON" interweaving which is also a bonded material for making masks. I would like to return this product to the Surprise Home Depot as my husband says we do not need to replace any of the material we have used as weed control previously in our front & side yards. It is a great product for its intended use as it is a plant base poly product...or weeds killing weeds.

Does NOT Work
Installed this 4-months ago. This is the most amount of break through weeds Ive gotten at a SINGLE time. Weeds started popping through about 2-wks after laying this down. Even on the areas i doubled up on to prevent this from happening

I wrapped 3" perforated PVC secured with waxed nylon twine. This was placed in a trench lined with the fabric then surrounded with graded gravel. The gravel was then wrapped in the fabric liner and covered with existing soil. This is the main body of our front lawn french drain with overflow to the street. The fabric held up well and did not tear when the gravel was compacted - a short length was excavated to modify slope with the fabric re-used. Strong and very durable stuff.

So Far, So Good
Bought this product after mulching wasn't enough to keep weeds out. One roll covers quite a bit of area and it was relatively easy to install. Just cut areas for your plants to pop out and cover with at least 3-4in of mulch which gives extra help to the fabric to block out the sunlight (as well as hide the fabric.) So far, I found no problems with this product.

Easy To Do
The landscape fabric was easy to lay down. I just measured the length, cut with scissors, and laid it on the ground with holes for the existing plants. Held it down with blocks of wood until I got the wood chips (they recommend bark) spread on top of it. If I want to add more plants, it's just scooping the wood chips away and making a cut big enough to put the new plant in. It may look thin, but it is tough stuff.

thin, but strong, color blends
I have high hopes for this fabric. This one feels like actual cloth, no holes. Very rip resistant, I can't pull it apart with two hands, although it starts to stretch. Almost seems like the stuff inside fiberglass to me. The light gray color will be much less visible than the ugly black. High hopes, I will update in a year after it's been under river rock, see if it tears or breaks down. Very thin, can easily see through it, and obviously water permeable. I might hesitate to use this for retaining wall gravel filter, but french drain maybe... I've previously used woven plastic landscape fabric... the black one with the green lines towards then end. They tend to break and unravel, and weeds got through that one within a year.
