I see the rating for this motor is 5.2 amps. Is this the running amperage draw? Is the start-up amp draw higher? And if so, how much? I may need to buy a generator to cover when the electricity goes out. The last pump I had, which lasted over 20 years, was listed as 10 amps. But, when it started up, it drew a lot more. Any insight on start up amp draw? or is there a formula to figure this out? thanks
Asked by: CoastalWaterGuy
Great question. The 5.2 Amps listed is the full load amps. So that is the maximum it should draw which will be during start up. In most applications it will draw considerably less after start up. Which will most likely cause you ask, well how much less? The answer is I don’t know. You see that will be affected by what point on the pump curve you are pumping at. Put more simply are you lifting the water 5’ or 10’. Also what is the size of the discharge pipe are you using as that will affect the resistance which will change the amount of power the motor will need to draw. I you want to give us a call with that info I think one of our engineers may be able to give you an educated guess. The other thing to consider is that the spike you saw with the other pump may not be the result of the pump but instead be a reflection of how your generator operates. Generators have become less expensive over recent years which is good but as a result I have seen many of these new generators act in ways that seem counter intuitive.

is it available with longer power cord (20ft min)
Asked by: max
Yes it is. Liberty offers longer cords as a factory installed option. It can be ordered with a 20', 35, and 50' Unfortunately the Home Depot does not currently offer the ability to do special orders on line but it can be done through a store. If you would like advise as to how to do that please feel free to give me a call. Chris 978 651 3301
