I've been wanting a good excuse to buy a plasma cutter forever, but I never have a good enough reason. I finally got this "1937 American Bantom Roadster Rat-Rod" (see picture) that needs a bunch of special parts 'cut to fit' to fix it's screwed up suspension, and this was the time! I cut through 1/4 inch steel easily. I doubt this could cut through 1/2 inch as they say. Not a clean cut anyway. I set it up 220V on a 30A breaker. I just use the same plug I use to plug my automotive dual post lift. I was on my forth or fifth cut really enjoying the cutting ease. Then, there was a VERY loud pop, or bang from the cutter, and then nothing. Startled the crap out of me! I expected to see some phisical damage, but it looked the same. I checked the breaker box and it's breaker was popped. So, I reset the breaker and turned the cutter back on, but only the power toggle light still worked. The air did not blow, the fan did not run, and of course the pilot arc did not work. DEAD AS A DOOR-NAIL! What ever a door-nail is..... (Half smile and a single tear...) I am going to look into an American made unit. I know it's more money, but I bet they are a lot better.

no major complaints just yet besides it coming with a 30 amp twist lock plug so I'm gonna have to change that. I purchased the dog bone online for it to convert 30 amp to 15 amp or whatever it was. Definitely needs to go the other way around but I thought I'd give it a shot. Gonna hook it up to 50 amp soon so it should be flawless after that.

Little package, big power. I wasn't sure when reading reviews what to expect, but decided to roll the dice. Restoring a 77 Camaro presently, had the whole floorpan cut out in less than an hour. Also used to cut bracing for the body, and material to make a rolling cart. Have a good ground, keep the tip off the metal, and you will be a hacking master.

Are there better plasma cutters out there....yes. But for the price, the Lotos is a great piece of equipment for the novice. This equipment easily cut quarter inch steel after a few minutes of practice. The more practice, the better the cuts.

I wish I would have bought a plasma cutter sooner!
I do quite a bit of metal work in the garage and had thought about a plasma cutter for a while, but couldn't justify over a grand for a decent one with a pilot arc. Once I red the reviews on the Lotos and saw how inexpensive it was, I had to have it! The only thing I had to do before using it was make an adapter cable from my older style 220 plug to this twist lock style plug. So far I've cut 1/4" aluminum and steel, which cuts like a hot knife through butter. Make sure to use actual welding gloves and not mechanics gloves, the hot sparks will do a number on them! The cutter is so compact and light, I can store it in the bottom self of my wire feed cart. I went ahead and bought the 3 year extended warranty just to play it safe.

LOTOS LTP5000D Plasma Cutter with Pilot Arc
The unit performs very nicely and is super lightweight. The torch hose is longer than I could imagine needing. The ground clamp on the other hand could stand to be a bit longer, but that is a very easy modification if I find it too bothersome moving the unit around. It is super lightweight which is a plus for sure. Of course the 220V plug was a twist-lock and I'm set up for a straight blade that matches my welder, so I still have not connected this to 220V yet. I purchased the adapter ($33 I think) and it is very heavy duty and well made. I priced out the female connector body and a heavy duty 110V plug to make my own adapter (simple wiring) and my parts cost alone came to more than $33, so I just bought the adapter through Home Depot and am glad I did. I just wish I would have purchased it immediately with the plasma cutter. As of now, HOWEVER, I was still able to make a very nice smooth straight cut on a large condensate tank (making a smoker) that was almost 1/4" wall thickness. I had to make two and sometimes three passes to get through. When I turned the current up (still running on 110V), it cut phenomenally......but tripped my dedicated 20 amp breaker within about 6 seconds. I plan on installing my 220V receptacle this week and I'm sure I'll be able to run it wide open without breaker issues. Overall, I am VERY satisfied with this machine. I ordered it at the desk and it arrived within a week in perfect condition.

    good tool
This is my first plasma cutter and I like it. My only complaint is that the ground cable is to short, it is about 3ft long. If you buy this order the extension cord to go with it, which you can't find at Home Depot.
