Will this magnet work on/with stainless steel?

AnswersIt depends on the particular stainless steel alloy. The kind used on refrigerator doors (what's called a ferritic alloy) will work with this magnet. The kind used for cookware, kitchen sinks and similar items (what's called an austenitic alloy or 18-8 stainless or 18-10 stainless) will not work with this magnet.

Worked fine for my application, which was mounting a camera on the roof of a vehicle. I used four of them and the mount doesn't budge even at highway speeds. It still needs a safety strap, but it's really more for show than anything else. The mount doesn't move a bit.

Purchased 4 magnets to mount two cordless blinds to steel French doors. Used 1/2 in bolts to secure mounting bracket to magnet and holds the 2 lb blinds securely with no sliding. Took less than 10 minutes to finish.

This magnet serves as a catch for a deck gate. The design of the fence means I cannot use a regular gate catch. The magnet has sufficient force to keep the gate open yet it takes little effort to close the gate. See photos for full explanation.

These magnets were perfect for my application.....used to hold oilfield equipment in place where other means are impractical / inconvenient and will fall apart in a short period of time. These magnets arrived early and were shipped directly to the store to eliminate shipping cost. After researching these on the web, Home Depot was the obvious choice with price, availability and shipping options to choose from. Thanks again for helping me out once more....

This works as described. Needed to hold a rack of items that weighed about 44lbs in place. Didn’t want to drill a hole to secure the shelf. This worked great. It worked so well I added a few extra pounds to the shelf and it still didn’t budge. Its probably holding 55pounds securely.

I screwed the magnets to boards to hold tape that I can photograph scaling tape. So I'm always attaching and detaching the boards. I bought 16 of these. I've had to return 5 of them as the magnets have fallen / come out. It's like the adhesive they use fails. If you attach the magnet once it might work for you. If you attach and detach them often be ready to return them back to the store without the magnet.
