How to remove the label?

Each one of these has a 6 x 10” label stuck to it and not easy to get off. How can this be removed more easily?
Asked by: Brian
Gently warm the label with a hair dryer (or heat-gun) and it peels off. I removed a little gum residue with WD-40 after.

Cutting the board

I do not have a saw to cut the board. If I buy this item at the store, will they cut it to my dimensions (39"x14")?
Asked by: Nick
Yes, they will cut it. Some stores only offer 1 or 2 cuts free of charge. After that there is a small charge for additional cuts. Also, they use their big panel saw to do these custom cuts. As one other reviewer noted, if their blade happens to be dull at the time they're doing your cuts, resulting in minor chipping and tearing of the melamine surface, you won't know until after the damage is done. I've never seen them do blade changes because a customer was concerned about a dull blade. Still, ripping it down to 14 inches is a long cut, and the panel saw gives an incredibly straight and accurate cut that's hard to do at home, by hand, with a circular saw. Just FYI.

Is the shelf finished on the front edge?

Asked by: Becky
Yes. Front edge and both sides are finished. But not the back side.

Customer Reviews

Melamine White Shelf Board (Common: 3/4 in. x 15-3/4 in. x 8 ft.; Actual: 0.75 in. x 15.75 in. x 97 in.) is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 75.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from No finished "front" side I just bought this in store, as well as the 24" width, and had them both cut into several shelves. The s4" has one long, finished edge, as most shelving boards of this nature do. I assumed the 15-3/4" did as well, but when loading into my car I found that it does not. NOt a HUGE deal, as these are going into a pantry and bathroom closet, but just another thing to slow me down in the process! I don't understand why this width wouldn't have the finished side. It also doesn't cut smoothly at the store, so if you want nicely finished edges, bring it home and tape your lines before you cut it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It's not a top-quality shelf, but it's a shelf I ordered two of these. They were both 97". As others have noted, strangely the ends are bare particle board. I taped the boards with two full wraps of masking tape, but still had to cut VERY slowly (with a Freud blade!) to minimize chip-out. There are some slight imperfections in the skinny melamine sections (corners sticking out a bit, etc.) but for garage shelves it'll do the job. I ended up painting the bare sides so they didn't look so goofy.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not 97 inches long I don't usually get on and give negative reviews, but I bought this needing to put some shelves in my boys' closet. I needed exactly 8'-1" or the 97 inches as advertised to make 4 shelves of 24 1/4 inches each. After I cut my first shelf, I measured the remaining piece and was shocked to realize there wasn't enough left for my shelves. After a little math and measuring another "97 inch" shelf I had bought, I learned the shelf was really 95 1/2 inches long to start with. I was more than a little upset but managed to finish the shelves with extra large gaps at each side. If you need less than the 95 1/2 inches, the board is fine, but don't buy thinking you're getting the full 97.

One of the long edges comes with edge banding, so I was able to cut the shelves to size to fill the entire closet and make it look like it came that way from the factory. To cut these and get a perfect finish, I use a blade designed for fine finishes and melamine and blue painters tape. I run the painters tape across the cut line and cut slowly and have no chipout when using those two methods. These are the perfect size for shelving, and make building out a nice closet very easy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Melamine Shelving I deceided to build an entertainment center for my grandson's bedroom using 16" wide melamine shelving. It turned out pretty good as long as you have the right tools. I used 12" long wall brackets secured to the walls and 2" long finishing screws for the sides

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unfinished edges on wider boards. Rolls of 3/4-inch wide iron-on melamine tape can be used to finish raw edges of the press board; especially useful if you have to rip wider pieces into strips for narrower shelves.

I ordered two sheets online so the store picked them out and put them on will call. When I picked them up they were damaged on the front edges and surfaces. I mentioned this to the associate - no real response. Since I needed them for a business job the next day, I accepted the order and used the best pieces for the shelving I was installing. This is not typical for damaged products, but really not acceptable when the store picks them out and gets them ready for delivery.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Served my needs perfectly I wanted to create a "shelf" between two plastic rolling bins. This served the purpose plus ended up being the correct height to turn into a second work space in my home office.
