Questions & Answers

Is there any trick to moving the on-off levers? Or are they just very stiff?

Asked by: celebrateoften
Three-plus years after posting this question, I can now answer it: There are tiny Philip's-Screwdriver heads on the bottom/round part of the lever. Use them to loosen and tighten the levers.

Is it Hot and cold

I would not use it for hot water. Although built of brass it is not made to handle high temperatures.

Will I lose serious water pressure using 2 or 3 of the outlets a time? Or is there something inside that corrects that?

My goal is to use two or three Slip N Slides simultaneously.

Is the connection to faucet plastic or simply plastic over brass?

Rubber over brass. Really sturdy.

4-Way Hose Faucet Connection is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 228.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from works well does not crack like plastic ones Pros easy to use Sturdy for a time Cons the plastic fittings wear out and leak after about 2 seasons. The metal parts I have no issue with but I do have to replace them after 2 years (owned several now) as the start to leak from the sides of the plastic part that screws on the hose bib. Have tried replacing washer but still leaks. So I replace one each year. I have two one in front one in back. I have a large yard and several sprinklers and drip lines so these are still the best I can find. I also use the two way splitter ones with same issues two seasons and done. However it is nice these have enough spread to have two way splitters on each end with enough room to use them all so I have 6 total on a single hose bib and can turn each easily. I will say before you install play with the valves a bit to loosen them right from the factory they are really really stiff. If you loosen them by flipping them several times before installing on the bib you will save pinched fingers later when they are wet and stuck.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from If you ever think you want to remove a hose from it again, then walk away. This is the second one of these I bought. The first one broke after less than a year, but it looked like just one of "those things". The second one I got lasted longer, but I wanted to move hoses around after a few months, but the manifold hose bibs are themselves threaded in with a very short connector of their own, and they unscrew before your hose does, rendering this thing useless, and also now you have to try to get their odd little connectors out of your hose when all they have is about 1/8" sticking up. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me, I guess. But there won't be a third time.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from 4-way hose faucet connection. The item is fine, although the masonry part of the install (tying the connector via a metal stem to the brick) seems a bit 'much.' I am assuming this step has been added to accommodate the extra torque the connector endures when other connections/hoses are being made so that it does not cause undue stress where the connector meets the faucet. Our previous 4-way connector was fine, until the brass gave-way at that connecting point, which was very frustrating as that was the only thing broken with it. This is why it was replaced. One recommendation I would make to manufacturer is to somehow highlight the on/off positions on each of the tour connections as they are brass-colored and unless you look up-close, you cannot tell which position is on or off. I took the wife's nail polish, in a brightly=colored-green, and 'marked' the on position with that color so I can readily see the mark. It is hoped that this connector will last longer than the previous one but time will tell.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well for my permanent irrigation system The product is a bit expensive if this is not something you intend to use regularly, and may require additional parts depending on what you are using it for. I have used this to install a permanent irrigation system into my garden by connecting it to 1/2" conduit pipes that run underground and around my garden beds. Obviously I needed to convert the metal hose connection to a 1/2" PVC connection, but parts needed also available and were inexpensive at Home Depot. Only other feedback I have on the device is that the on/off levers for each of the 4 channels are not the easiest to turn. For me this actually works to my advantage as my irrigation system required different Water pressure in each line and valves needing more force to adjust make it easier for me to vary pressure with more precision.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great time saver. This saves me hours of attaching hoses and is an excellently made connector. I have a large yard and garden and without this I (a recent widow) would be doing nothing but disconnecting and reconnecting all day. Great quality! Great price! Easy to connect. You an use from one to four hoses all at one!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of money These are not very durable. I've gone through 3 and it only takes about 3 months for them to break. Don't waste your money if you expect them to last and use them on a ranch where they get heavy use. I am currently searching for a better style that will last longer than 3 months

The weak point is a white metal piece with brass plating which connects to the faucet. The description does say "metal", not brass. A number of reviewers reported having the main body break off at the faucet connection. In my case, it was attached to a hose, so not subject to much stress. However, the white metal corroded through and broke after several seasons. It was very difficult to get the corroded connector piece off the hose. Corrosion products filled the threads on the hose and they are an effort to remove. The 4-way hose connection is very convenient. I suggest using PTFE thread seal to protect the threads from possible corrosion. I am replacing the Melnor unit with a similar one from Orbit, which claims to be made of brass. I have tried plastic ones, but they have not lasted long.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Handy Manifold fairly durable but needs reinforcement at faucet for irrigation systems. It is ok for occasional use but not for sprinkler systems used regularly. I bumped one of the hoses to a line with my mower and the single connect to the faucet on the house broke. I needs to be reinforced better. It has a mount to connect to the house but that wouldn't work since I needed another connection so I could water manually.
