The 53100 Cannot follow the program you are asking about. It can water 6 times per day but every 4 hours after you select the first watering time. The Melnor 73100 can water every hour 24 times per day.

What is the minimum and maximum specification of water pressure and flow water?

Asked by Xavier July 10, 2018

Answer

The typical measurement to match is Gallons Per Minute (GPM) out of your faucet. I have done this by marking a 5 gallon bucket at the 4 gallon mark - then timing to that mark and calculating GPM. With that number in hand, you can select the GPM for each sprinkler "head" that you want to install - combined total GPM of the heads can not exceed GMP from your faucet. Be careful to select underground pipe at minimum 3/4" diameter or your flow will be less than faucet GPM (don't ask how I know this)!

Yes you can use a leader hose from the hose bib .. I would suggest a plastic box with a top where the unit can be stored ...I would not place the unit directly on the ground ...It will get dirty and gritty ..that, grit/ sand , dirt would get into the knobs thus making them possibly hard to turn and damage the unit ,,,,Just find a sturdy plastic box with cramp down lid ...put holes into either end of the box for hoses // I also made a removable lens that I can take on/off the LED screen >I did this in order to be able to clean the removable lens and protect the LED screen on the unit...The LED screen area on the unit is recessed and will get a dirt buildup on the screen and thus get damaged / scratched and eventually unable to be read for programming ... Lastly don't let the unit stay outside during freezing temps ..it will freeze and crack ...Seems to be common sense I know however there are people out there that would forget to bring it inside ......Great unit BTW ...

Asked by Andy May 11, 2018

Answers

This can be done but it will still require some manual intervention. To water your new trees deeply you would need to hook up soaker hoses to the water timer. Because you want to select a random day between 10 and 14 days you would need to set the timer for every day of the week for the duration you want and on each selected zone that is needed. You would then need to turn off the timer and turn it on for the day you need to water your new trees. At the end of the cycle you would need to turn the timer off until the next selected day.

The 53280 has a rain delay feature which allows you to stop the program for a number of day's. This model can also be used with our 15339 Corded Moisture Sensor - This unit measures the moisture in the soil where its probe is buried and then sends signals to the timer whether to run the next cycle or not. The 15339 Moisture Sensor is available on Home Depot .com.

Timer worked well enough initially, but like other reviewers have noted, the screen faded by the end of 2 weeks. This is going back for a refund!

Seeds Program Review
(What's this)
I have owned various water timers throughout the years. With that being said I have owned my fair share of bad timers and on occasion I have owned timers that did the job, but weren’t anything special. The Melnor Advanced 4-Zone Electronic Water Timer doesn’t fit into either one of those categories. This timer works extremely well and definitely will fit any of your watering needs. It can be used to water your lawn, your vegetable garden, planter beds and just about anything else. Installation and programming can be accomplished in literally minutes. This unit simply attaches to your exterior water faucet, by screwing it on. Then you can attach your hoses to each of the four valves. I have been using this unit for approximately two plus months and haven’t encountered any leaks at any of the points of attachment. The unit is extremely easy to program, especially with the large LED screen. You toggle through each screen, making your programming adjustments as needed. You can set the duration as well as the frequency of the cycle for each one of the four zones. Furthermore, you can set up one zone or all four zones. All of the zones can be programmed individually or for overlapping times, it all depends on your watering needs. Each step is self explanatory and before you know it you will be up and running. If you need to turn on a zone, and it is not scheduled to be on, all you have to do is turn the lever from timer to manual. When you are done turn the lever back to timer and this zone will come on at the programmed time.

(What's this)
This water timer is great!! It has come in so handy for watering my vegetable garden and is helping to not only conserve water but also helps in conserving my time!! It installs in minutes, simply by attaching to the outside faucet. There are no leaks where the timer attaches to the faucet or where the hoses attach to the timer! The control unit is easy to read and the screen rotates left to right. The value part also rotates left and right. Each valve can be switched to a manual watering mode if you don't want to use the timer, this mode works great for filling up water balloons! The timer can be set for 4 different zones at once with each zone able to have it's own start time, length of watering time and how often to water time. You can also program the timer so that it waters for select days or at regular intervals. It even has a rain delay mode. Timer is easy to set and easily resets if you hold "OK" button for 7 seconds. Having the four valves allows for a hose to each garden, a hose to the sprinkler for the grass and a free valve for filling up buckets or water balloons. This timer is never coming off of our faucet! Great product!

Seeds Program Review
(What's this)
The Melnor 4 zone electronic water timer was what I needed to water the area where my pool used to be. It was removed last fall and I needed a way to water different zones in that area. A one zone timer wasn't going to solve my problem. I liked the set up of the Melnor. It allows me to hook up 4 different hoses for different applications. I am able to water the new lawn twice a day to keep the soil moist for seed germination. I can also water my containers of potato plants on its own schedule. Overall I am pleased with this timer and the ease of programming the timer. It was very easy.

Seeds Program Review
(What's this)
This is a nice looking water timer that’s easy to program but two of the timed water outlets leaked water from the start. No matter how I adjusted the timer or set the valves from manual to automatic I could not get the water to shut off. The overall construction of this timer is very nice and it's super easy to program. It's so easy that the instructions are really not needed but they are very complete. The face of the timer is large and easy to read even in direct sunlight. Since there are two modules; the timer head and the water outlet module, you can take the timer head off the water outlet module and go someplace comfortable to program the timer. This is a super nice feature if you want to set a complex watering schedule. The timer is capable of multiple watering schedules per day and 7 days per week. This unit has the capability of being used with a rain delay gauge if bought separately. I can see that this would be of great value to automatically delay watering if the ground is wet from a rain storm.

Seeds Program Review
(What's this)
I had to give this product a thumbs down. My reasons: 1. Hard to RESET. I don't know why this is a new concept to manufacturing, but I had to pull the batteries and wait until it went dead to RESET. It was blinking the time, the next start time and the ZONES. 2. It was highly UN-reliable. #3 Valve was operating all night long, it never shut off. I had to "reset" and make it turn on then off to Just TURN OFF! In short, I'm no slacker when it comes to the timer industry. I have OLD other brands and newer other brands that WORK, always. Here it's been EXACTLY 11 days and I've wasted a huge amount of water. I was going to get the Hydrologic detector they offer, but I thought, Why bother? Save your money and go with a different brand.

Seeds Program Review
(What's this)
This is my third such watering timer - only because I keep adding more "Zones" to my setup. I do not have an irrigation system and I am not ready to invest in the steep price to install one. The Melnor water timer is easier to setup than the Orbit systems and provide more features too. With this product I can water up to 24 times per day - totally not necessary for me but it's there if you need it. This product, like the others, still requires manual intervention when rain is coming so you still have to keep tabs on that and adjust the unit accordingly. Overall, the setup of the timer is easy and I now have my entire yard covered with the four separate zones and corresponding hoses and sprinkler heads. Overall great product!

(What's this)
Complete zone control over four different watering stations with this handy little battery powered unit. No need for low voltage wiring, this unit uses only two AA batteries to operate. Useful in those hard to reach areas where there is no existing power. Installation is very straight forward. Programming is also pretty self explanatory, making it simple to set up and make changes to any specific zone as needed. Green and black colors help it to blend into nature so it doesn't stand out. Knobs are easy to turn, large print is easy to see. Great four zone controller for any garden area.

Seeds Program Review
(What's this)
If you have a small yard or a vegetable garden or flow beds and a bunch of hoses your set. There are a number of uses for this. You can use it to water your lawn, but if you have to leave the hose out on the grass then it would make mowing little more challenging. No one likes dragging a hose around. But for water flower beds and gardens it works great. Having 4 zones is nice so you can have 4 different areas water appropriately. Install is easy connect to a hose spigot or inline with a hose. Install a couple of AA batteries (not included) and plug in the timer to the valve body portion. It would be nice if there were a way to mount the unit to post or stake in the ground. There are not mounting holes on the unit. It looks to be intended to be installed on a fixed hose spigot. The bracket for mounting the electric portion does swivel and snap into left, right and front locations. If there were a mounting option the inlet location would be a bit awkward too. So consider your hose spigot mounting option when considering this. Programming the timer is the easiest timer I have programed. You have every option that I could thinking you would need. You can change watering times from minutes to hours and cycles from minutes to days. You can do 24 cycles in a day. Also it's easy to remove the controller for easy programing too. you can manually turn each zone one either via the controller (which sees like more work) or just turn the knob on the valve body.
