Overview

Automate your watering and simplify your life with the new Melnor Raincloud Smart Watering System. This system allows you to get the benefits of the advanced scheduling available with inground, professionally installed irrigation systems without the extreme costs or mess of digging up your yard for installation. Instead, Raincloud allows you to simply connect up to 4 garden hoses (expandable to 8 with the addition of a second Faucet Valve Unit) and connect to the watering device of your choice. No more trying to program your watering timer on a small, hard to read LCD screen like used on traditional watering timers, instead setup and scheduling is easy and all done on your smart phone or tablet using the free Raincloud App or even using your computer on the Raincloud website. Scheduling Raincloud can be as simple as setting to watering once per day every day with each watering zone, to scheduling each zone to water up to 6 times per day for different amounts of time on different days of the week. You decide how simple or complex you want to set your watering schedule to be for the ultimate in scheduling flexibility. You can even fully automate the system with the addition of the Melnor AquaSentry Moisture Sensor. This amazing device senses the moisture level in your soil and only allows the Raincloud to water when the soil is dry. If the soil is already wet enough, it tells Raincloud to skip the watering cycle which saves water and is better for your plants.

everything was easy to setup and I thought this unit would solve my watering problems. But after I took the valve unit outside it lost the connection to the control unit after 5 minutes. I bring it back inside and it reconnects. What can I do to make this a stronger signal. I rally can't move my router.
Asked by: Les
you may want to extend your wifi closer to where the valve is by using some like GOogle wifi or something similar

What's going on with the Melnor Raincloud website and APP. I can not access the websit - it keeps whirling but the site never opens. Started 20 May 2017 - is not working properly. I can not control my timer.

Like everybody else, this thing does not stay connected. And what rocket scientist made it so that if that happens you can't go and set it manually? The product is horrible. Get rid of it and find something else and you'll never look back.

When the servers are down -- that is, when neither the app nor the desktop browser can reach the servers, then it's not possible to manage the schedule at all. Today's is July 1, 2018, & for the last 2 days, beginning June 28, 2018, the servers have not been reachable. When the device is working, one occasional problem that I encounter is that during a scheduled watering for a zone, the app / website shows a dark water-drop icon for that zone instead of the blue water-drop icon. When that dark icon shows for that zone, no watering happens during that zone's scheduled watering. Normally, when the icon is blue for a zone, watering is being done at that time. Anyway, this happens occasionally when I'm paying attention - I have no idea how frequently this happens when I'm not paying attention.

Cons: It burns through batteries. Plan for less than 75 days with alkaline batteries. The battery door is hard to access after you set it up The Battery door is poorly designed and allows water to get into the battery compartment. There is no alert to when your batteries are low (you need to register this online or on an app, with your email address and that is how you program it) It will go offline without any notification. I use it for nightly drip irrigation so it is not readily apparent when it has stopped working.

This timer seemed like the ideal solution with being wireless and internet controlled and all. SAVE YOUR MONEY! This thing is so unreliable I can't believe it's even on the market. It's constantly losing it's connection with the internet resulting in dying plants and a complete reset weekly (and no, it's not my internet. Out of everything in my house, this is the ONLY thing that gives me trouble. Everything else works like it's supposed to). Contacted Melnor and the nice lady says she will send an email with all the information and paperwork to send it in for repair/replacement. Funny, the email never came and nobody ever called back or attempted to contact me. Prior to this, I had a manual Melnor timer and I went through three (3) new units before I got one that worked, and now I got this obviously defective unit. No more Melnors for me! Oh, and when it does work (as others have stated) the response time for a command from the app you have to download to operate it (as it has no other way to operate than from the app) it takes 1-2 minutes to function. That's WAY TOO LONG! So in hindsight, save your money as this product has good intentions but it doesn't deliver.

It was easy to set up, runs flawlessly. I dried out my product and sealed it in a zip-lock bag for the winter. Stored in a freeze proof area. New batteries and I was back in business. Zone 4 is for my misters. Really great turning them on while I'm outside. Con: 4 hour minimum repeat. Not a huge deal, but I use zone 4 for misters and would rather run them hourly. I live in the desert and the Plumeria and other tropical plants love it.

The raincloud, it's apps, and the internet site work great with no issues. It has plenty of options to set the timer up and has enough range for my house. I don't know if it's my router or the unit but if I go into the router configuration to do anything the raincloud disconnects so I have to unplug it and let it reconnect, not a big deal.

The app that you download is intuitive and you will not have a problem programming your sprinklers. The advantage to using a WIFI control is that you can make changes easily to your watering schedule. You can also keep from watering on rain days.
