Questions & Answers

I think I may have over applied as my grass appears to have burnt, is there a way to undo this?

Asked by: shoeless
LOL, That can't happen. I put this on at a rate of 18#/100 SF. You can put this on with a shovel with not issues at all. It's an organic fertilizer. I put down 500# in early spring and another 500# in early fall. No pre-emergent used in years.

What does this do to weeds?

We have a lot of patchy grass/weeds in the back yard because the previous owner had dogs that made bare spots in the grass - perfect places for weeds! Will this product make the weeds grow stronger as well as grass?
Asked by: 2sweet4most
Makes them grow like crazy. It is a low grade fertilizer afterall.

Is this organic

Is this organic
Asked by: Jo
I would consider it safe for use on your garden, including edible crops. It is treated to have no measurable pathogens, such as Salmonella, E Coli, and helminth ova. It may not be "certified for use on USDA organic produce", but the application of Class A biosolids (which milorganite is) is not restricted at all by under EPA Part 503 because it is such high quality. Also, just to clarify, milorganite and other biosolid products are NOT human waste. It is derived from sewage sludge, which is dead bacteria that have aerobically respirated and consumed the waste, breaking it down and essentially turning it into CO2 and water. So you're spreading dried, treated bacteria, not poop. Very important distinction.

I have heard that deer will not bother a garden when milorganite fertilizer is used, Any feedback on that?

Asked by: Eddie
I listen to a radio talk show that deals with gardening, the show host owns a chain of garden centers. A caller to his show had a problem with deer and the show host recommended this product to deter deer and skunks. I have a skunk problem digging holes in my flower garden so I bought a bag today. I will apply as the show host recommends and see if it works.
