The MILWAUKEE 25' 1/4" Steel Fish Tape with Low Profile Tip is the perfect size for most residential applications. This tool makes life much easier for running wires and cables inside walls or through soffits. I am very particular about not having wires showing when things like televisions are mounted on the wall and this steel tape makes running them a breeze. Sometimes it’s hard to figure out where things are inside the wall and the laser etched measurements on the tape remove much of the guessing. The plastic casing making reeling-in the tape easy and very compact. I have no doubt this tool will be helpful in my upcoming outdoor camera install. I am glad to add this to my Milwaukee collection.

This fish tape is nice and compact. It was a little hard to pull out but worked great pulling wires in conduit for my outdoor lights. Went around elbows easily with no snags. Only problem I had was the end needs to have a hole in it to loop or hook up a cable net on the end. I just stripped the wire ends and taped them to the fish. After the fish was out it went in easily.

When you need a small, easy to use and carry fish tape, this is the one. First, the size and length makes it easy to carry and maneuver, for your shorter, smaller runs. It’s ¼” steel, clearly marked with laser etchings that are easy to read. It’s flexible, but also stiff enough to hold up and get where you need to be. The end has a low profile tip that makes it easier to push and pull, without as much resistance as some of the others. The case is low friction and the shape of the handle and size makes extending and retracting the tape easy and smooth. It fits easily into your tool bag and doesn’t take up a lot of space. It has a limited lifetime warranty.

As an older person that used the version without this sort of covering or compactness of steel fish tape, this is a great idea. I still have my 50 ft old fashion fish tape in my basement that is in big loops cause there is no way to get it as small as this without this sort of casing. Wish I thought of it. Back then, even as a DIYer, I would have the fish tape, old type all over the place unraveled on the ground sort of bounding up and down and around like a fish out of water. Hard to control. But with this new type it was very very controllable on feeding it and re-tracking it back in. In the beginning it was sort of tight to pull out, so I gave it a little shot of lubricant spray once I got it pulled out and retracting it to see how it really does it. I found that giving it a bit of lubricant helped to pull and retract it in. I would recommend you don;t retract it all the way cause it will be more difficult to pull it out from my experience. So I would recommend at least 3-4 inches sticking out. I like the squarish inside so that you can get a good grip as your slide the black plastic handle round and round the circle to retract it. It works and no more large uncontrollable loops. I like the 25ft as in my opinion a good length for all those rewiring jobs for residential home projects. The steel is flexible as before and this has etched numbers up to 25 intervals along the length of the steel tape. See all my pics. When you look at the unit it is held together with 4 screws. No I did not bother to unscrew to see how it works inside, but I can tell you when you retract it back in, I think there is some sort of ratcheting that keeps it from spinning out of control when you hold it and slide the black plastic handle counter clockwise around the red outer circle and with the squarish inside helping to having a good grip to it. Overall this provides a more controlled way to pull out and retract fish tape and super easy to store away. Easy to bring in your tool bag too without doing it like the old fashion steel fish tape in big loops.

Milwaukee 1/4” x 100’ Steel Fish Tape 48-22-4185 I believe is a decent fish tape. The only reason I think so, is because, by mistake, two were accidentally shipped to me. The first one, as depicted in this video, locked up on me. Fortunately, the 2nd worked without flaw. Being 1/4” and 100’ in length, it is heavy. I suppose I have become spoiled with the lighter weight fiberglass and nylon pulls (which Milwaukee does make this that version as well!). All in all, this steel pull isn’t bad unless your performing long pulls all day.

This steel snake is an excellent buy. It is made by Milwaukee tools, very good company. The snake is one quarter inch thick, and one hundred feet long. It is made of blue tempered steel. It is lazer etched with footage markers, to help measure conduit runs. It works well in larger conduits, 2 inch and up to five and six inch. It is stored in a rugged plastic case with 4 hand hold locations for ease in rewinding and unwinding.

I bought the the new Milwaukee 100 ft 1/4 in. Steel fish tape because I needed to pull some new electrical lines through the basement ceiling to the panel box. It came to me in a Milwaukee shipping box and the fish tape was in a sealed plastic bag. I opened the box and the bag. This is a very good looking fish tape the case is red and the handle is black and it weighs 7.6 lb. The fish tape is a blue 1/4 in. Tempered steel for strength and flexibility and durability. This fish tape looks and feels heavy duty and that's exactly what I want in a fish tape. On the end of the fish tape there is a 1- 1/4 in. Welded Loop for connecting your wires to. This is called an anti- catch tip. This fish tape is 17 in. In Hight and 13 in. Long and 2- 1/4 in. Thick. Milwaukee really thought this out an added the high visibility laser etched markings every 1 ft increments on the fish tape. Milwaukee did a good job on the handle the opening on the handle is 6" x 1- 1/2 " plenty of room for big hands and if you are wearing gloves. There are 2 different grips on the handle ones for carrying the fish tape and the second one is for when you are retracting the fish tape. In the center of the case there are 4 inner grips, they are 4 in. Long for a strong positive grip when retracting the fish tape. The Ridges keep your hands from slipping off. When I was retracting the fish tape back into the case it would bind up on me time to time. I guess this is the norm for fish tapes. Other than that I love this Milwaukee 1/4 in. Fish tape. I like it better than other fish tapes I've used in the past. I can recommend this outstanding fish tape 100%. It's a tool for pulling wire. If you are going to buy one buy the best ( Milwaukee ) you won't regret it.

Very well made, but bulky and jams. Even though the tag says 'smooth payout' it still jams and is extremely hard to feed. The case and handle are larger than other models I have used but the hand grips in the center do not help with any leverage when it jams. They help when reeling in the tape, but not when paying it out. There is a window to see how much tape is left in the reel and length markings on the tape, but not always easy to see unless in bright daylight. Nice heavy duty tape, but if you can't get it out of the reel, then it's not doing its job.

I'm installing a hardwired camera system around my house, through my soffits, under the attic floor and then into a closet. Some of the spaces are very tight and the only way to run the cables is with a sturdy fish tape. This one more than fits the bill. To be honest, for DIY home use it's overkill, 50' or even 25' would have been more than enough, but but it definitely got the job done. The anti-catch tip kept me from getting snagged on anything when pulling through any of the tight spaces. The laser etched #'s made it very easy to know how much further I had to go, and helped me picture where the cable was and if I might need to give a little twist or extra pull. Overall no complaints, just know this is probably best for a pro, if you need one for home use a smaller tape will be easier to handle and maneuver.
