Hi, Frank. The arrows on the screen of the Digital GFCI Receptacle Tester indicate the direction to move the tester to align the laser with the center. If the laser leaves the sensor, the up or down arrow segments will begin to cycle, indicating the direction that the laser was last detected.

              Answer This Question

Hello, Mike. Yes, the Milwaukee Digital GFCI Receptacle Tester can detect a hot neutral reverse even if there is no ground wire in the box. The tester is designed to identify various wiring conditions including hot & neutral reversed, hot & ground reversed, open hot, open neutral, open ground, and correct wiring.

                (1)

No, plug testers can only identify one problem at a time. If you plugged it into an ungrounded outlet with hot/neutral reverse it would show open ground. If you correct the open ground, it would then show hot/neutral reverse. Can't show without ground.

Works as described. All the features were tested and didn’t have any issues. Doubled checked it against another higher dollar piece of equipment to make sure the readings were accurate, which they were.

Excellent outlet tester, works as it should. The screen will actually display the voltage and other important information, which takes the guesswork out of interpreting what lights lit up on a simpler tester. Pressing the "test" button trips the circuit's GFCI, but it also measures and displays the speed it took the GFCI to kick-off. Neat feature! I do wish the overall size of the unit was smaller. Oh well, maybe verson 2...

                      Excellent GFCI tester
The Milwaukee Digital GFCI tester is a must have to test your outlets. Can be used by DIYers, beginners, and Pros. Simple to use. Requires 2 AAA batteries. It gives you an instant AC voltage reading and also gives you a Green light if the circuit is good. I also simulated a ground fault and it gave the appropriate Red light and gives you the time it takes to trip. Out of all the GFCI testers, this is my favorite.

                      Sturdy Little Tester
The Milwaukee Digital GFCI Receptacle Tester has some wonderful upgraded features from the old school 3 light models. In addition to showing correct or miswired receptacles, it shows voltage and test GFCI circuits. The LCD is big and bright and holds the displayed data when unplugged, helpful when receptacles are oriented ground pin up. Over molded grip offers some drop protection and makes it easier to unplug.

                      Great tool
Very nice tool and very compact. Works well and does what it is supposed to. It shows the live voltage in an outlet and will also trip a GFCI when using the test button. Came with batteries so no need to purchase your own after getting this. Controls are easy to use and make sense. Would be nice if it also recorded a high and low in the outlet as I don’t think it can do that. But very good product

Awesome GFCI and Standard GFCI Tester and Voltage Readout Meter
This digital standard or GFCI receptacle tester is Awesome! Small form factor, handheld, but powerful features. This little jewel goes beyond indicating if a receptacle is wired correctly, but also shows you the voltage measurement at the receptacle. It has a test button built right in for testing GFCI receptacles. In addition, it also tests the trip time so that you know if the GFCI feature is not just working but that is tripping out within the allotted time specified. The tester also indicates the following conditions of the receptacle: hot & ground reversed, hot & neutral reversed, open hot, open neutral, open ground. This tester is built to be rugged rated for a drop up to 6ft. The tester requires 2 triple A batteries and includes a 2-year warranty. This tester will replace several items in my tool pouch taking up less room and weight. Highly recommend this product.

                      Upgraded GFCI Tester
The Milwaukee Digital GFCI Receptacle Tester is a significant upgrade from the standard GFCI. It operates using two AAA batteries, which are included with the purchase. This tester does more than simply indicate whether an outlet is wired correctly; it also displays the alternating current voltage when plugged into the outlet and measures the time it takes for a GFCI outlet to trip. This feature allows you to quickly identify if it takes longer than 1.5 seconds to trip, which could pose a serious safety risk if left unchecked.
