Can this be used to help neutralize herbicides like Ground Clear.?
            ByAug 28, 2025
            1 Answer |
            Answer This Question

We are not familiar with the product 'ground clear'. We know that activated charcoal can assist in absorbing/neutralizing herbicides, but we read online that ground clear cannot be neutralized. Mosser Lee charcoal is a non-activated horticultural charcoal and we cannot recommend using it for this purpose.

The charcoal is used in most of my potted plants, which I have many. I combine it with potting soil to help improve drainage and it acts as a natural filter to reduce odors. The charcoal pieces are a good size and can be broken up smaller if you need. I plan to purchase it again when I run out.

Great product, adding this charcoal to my indoor potting mix has improved the overall health of my plants. Texture has good structure and not too fine.

                  Thin Flakes
I was disappointed when I opened the bag. There are no chunks at all, just very small, thin flakes of charcoal. The image in the description does not match the product at all in my case. I had been planning on using this in an orchid mix but I will have to find a different solution.

This is a product you would use in the bottom of your potted plants to keep the water from getting stagnant and your planting medium from stinking to high heaven. Use anywhere from 1/2" to 2" deep depending upon the size of the planter. The chips are fairly uniform in size. I've included coins in the photo so you can get a size comparison. I've purchased bags of charcoal before in which the pieces had varying degrees of "doneness." These are all the same. There aren't any that are underdone and would be prone to rotting. This isn't a product that you HAVE to use in your potted plants but highly recommended for those indoor ones, especially.

I used this charcoal as a base for my terrarium together with small gravel stones. I also used moss to cheer up the plants and it looks great now. I hope the system will sustain long time with little water because of these charcoals. I also have some hanging flower pots on my walls outside my house, I will try to use it in those pots during he summer.
