BioSmart 5,000 Gal. (2,700 GPH) Filter Box

A:  Typically, all you need to set the unit up is pipework and a pump. The pipework is usually 1" or 1 1/2" and will run from your submerged pump to the inlet side of the BioSmart Filter. On the outflow side, you need length of 3" pipe to return the clean water back to the pond. This 3" pipe is connected to the supplied 3" outlet adaptor the Filter with a 3" Fernco fitting. The recommended pump for the BioSmart 5000 filter is ether the OASE Aquamax Eco Classic 1900 (57620) or the OASE Aquamax Eco Premium 2000 (57499). you have the option of adding a Vitronic 18 UVC filter (56455) in which case this UVC unit would mount on the 2 inlets of the BioSmart. A:  Hello Sandy. Thank you for your question. Unfortunately, this unit is gravity only and there is no way to pump it up to a waterfall spillway. The only way for this filter to work is to have it above where you want it to discharge. Your OASE Water Gardening Specialist, Kyla

A:  It's designed to collect fish waste; I'm guessing they meant not to keep live fish in. Perfect for Koi and other species in your pond. BTW, if submerged, the OASE pump inlet needs to be shielded... I've found smaller fish (dead) inside the filter box.

A:  Hello. Thank you for your question. The OASE BioSmart 5000 is what we define as a flow-through filter. While it does require a pump to operate, ideally this type of filter is positioned above the water surface, at the edge of the pond or above a waterfall. From that position, the water flows through the filter and back into the pond via gravity. We hope this helps!
