A: We do not recommend using this product with saltwater.
A: there is a tool you can buy, generally located in close proximity to the pvc-lock display. they are pipe-size specific, so get one that matches the locks you are buying. the tool/key is a thin pliable but hard metal band that you shove into the lock....between the teeth of the lock and the pipe. I find it works best if you hold the key tightly around the pipe while advancing it down into the lock. Rotating the key while inserting also helps.
A: You need the tool to remove. Make sure at least 1 inch between fittings so removal tool can be inserted.
A: DonB, yes you can use this adapter in that manner.
A: yes, that is how I use them. Works great, just make sure the pipes are even, if not, one the joining union will be slightly off...and it will leak (at least if it is the hi pressure side). Fortunately, if this happens, you can remove the adapter and trim the offending pipe. Sweet!
