Hi - I have looked and there is no native support for z-wave. There are some "home-made" efforts in development, but you really need to be willing to put some time into those. Seemed like too much work for me... The B-Hyve controller does support Alexa and Google Home now. They have also just released a new hub/controller with more powerful wi-fi, and that version is compatible just with Alexa right now.
My understanding is that the hub communicates with the controller over bluetooth and communicates with the app / network over your home wifi (it uses wifi, so you can see the controller from anywhere on the internet, not just at home). So, you need a working wifi in the same area as you want to run the hub and valves. I have one valve working about 5 feet away from the hub and a second one working about 40 feet away. I think the distance really depends more on what the signal has to pass through rather than just the distance - you will get more range outdoors than through multiple walls across a building.
The 21830 is probably an older model which is no longer on the Orbit-B hyve website. The new model is 21004, 21005 and the hub alone is 21006. I just checked one that I bought under the 21830 number and it is stamped 21005 on the bottom of the unit so it is the current model.
I'd suggest you look at Orbit's web pages. I have the hose timer 004 and I believe the other one 830 has a PIR sensor to deter animals.
Yes, it does, but integration is very limited. The Skill doesn't understand context, just a bunch of exact phrases. Also, it doesn't allow creating routines.
Yes, you can schedule it to water several times per day, create different "programs" or, if you prefer, let smart watering take care of it, monitoring your local weather and watering only when really needed. On smart mode, for example, if it rains, it postpones the watering automatically. if the weather is warmer (summer) it will water more to compensate the water evaporation.
So far I have 6 attached, four on one hub, and two on the second hub. The wifi from the first hub would not reach the front yard so I had to add the second hub and plug it in closer to the front of the house. So far so good. I don't like the software though. They are trying to use one app for both hose end timers and for sprinkler systems. Zones are for the sprinkler system with hard wired valves that can be opened and closed by designating zones and programming each zone. Hose end timers are one timer, one valve, so all the timers are in one zone (Zone 1) The timers are programmed individually (i.e ignore Zones for the hose end timers).
Gosh, watering only once a week? The battery will probably last way more than your plants. The battery usually lasts over 1 year with normal use, but instead of letting your plants crisp-dry and then drawn them, why not use the smart watering and split the watering into smaller waterings? The smart watering works great and you can also create several manual timers if you want. Usually splitting the waterings not only save a lot of water, but also give your plants a better hydration. Of course, each plant has specific requirements but it's nearly impossible to find a plant that likes to be 1 week with no water an then being drawned by a 3-hour irrigation. Replacing the battery is also super easy and it uses only 2x AA batteries.
If you have the water pressure then you should be fine. I don't trying it out will harm anything.
