This is the future of Sprinkler timers!
I have had this timer for a few weeks now. I love it. This is my second Orbit timer I've had in the last couple of years (since owning homes), and I have never had an issue with either. The setup on these is super smooth, easy and quick. In the box there isn’t a bunch of garbage you have to deal with either, there is the timer, the power cable, instructions and a wirenut (in case you need it). Once I had the old one off, the install for this one was super quick. Anybody can install and setup, you don’t need to know anything about sprinklers to start. I had one hiccup getting connected to wifi, where it just kicked me out of the app after saying it couldn’t connect, but got back in and it was connected. Once its installed, its super easy to use the app and set up schedules. You can have multiple schedules saved and toggle them on and off. The weather delays are awesome so you don’t water during the rain or bad wind. I know some other brands charge for the weather delay stuff but Orbit is free, and I like free. Easily do manual watering from anywhere. I haven’t set it up to the smart home yet, but excited for that. Overall, I definitely recommend.

    Difficulty with wiring
I've had this controller for a couple years and just swapped it out for a new one from a different manufacturer. I found attaching the sprinkler wires to the unit to be very difficult. The tabs popped out on me, and I could not restore them to the original position. I started having a problem with one of my sprinklers, and couldn't find an issue at the valve. Eventually by swapping places, and testing, it was a loose sprinkler wire on the unit. Even placing the loose wire on other control points didn't work. As far as the app and WiFi connectivity, the unit is fine. For this amount of money, I'd rather have the screw connectors to tighten down the wires.

Internet of Things comes to irrigation controllers! Well-designed hardware and app. Hardware is well thought-out. The controller doesn’t require an external wall transformer, which makes for a cleaner power hookup. Under the hood, or the cover panel, there’s a built-in level to ensure the controller gets a level mount. The push to connect/disconnect design makes connection fast and easy. This is the first electronic irrigation controller I’ve used that is 100% self-contained for a clean install…no wall transformer needed. Bluetooth-assisted setup worked for me on the first try. I like the variety of operating modes. Timed and ground saturation. It took me some time to get the Smart Watering to work to my satisfaction, but a little trial and error should be enough for most users. I find that the sprinklers run fewer minutes than on the previous controller and the lawns still look great. Probably my favorite feature is the Test button. No more running between the controller and the sprinkler I’m fixing/adjusting. Now I just open the station I’m working on from the app and just touch the Test button. Manual operation from the controller box is done with one button that provides clear status display of what you’re setting up and then the status of the controller as it cycles through stations.

The Orbit B-Hyve is the center of our new sprinkler installation. Our old controller was your traditional dumb controller which let you set the zone times and leveraged a rain sensor to control the days it isn't raining. Moving to the B-Hyve has been amazing in what it adds to the experience. Smart control - Built in weather is nice, not only to be displayed as I walk through the garage, but to know the controller will dynamically control my zone outputs to control for rain and other weather. By programming in in soil types, slope, sun exposure, number of heads and various other parameters the controller will dynamically adjust the watering schedule to prevent over-saturation Multiple programs- It's much easier to build multiple schedules across my zones for different use cases. I just finished up a cycle for growing new grass and I'll switch to a regular maintenance mode in the spring. However - I can keep all schedules stored on the machine and change them as I go through needs (particularly with my shrubs and flower beds). App - Once I have things set... I can't imagine needing to get back into the app frequently. However the app experience is well guided, helps you setup your programming to either be a simple on/off or leverage the smart control. Even better - I can integrate it to an Alexa or Google voice assistants Device - The device itself is well constructed, displays key information on water schedule & weather, uses magnets to access the wiring compartment with instructions on basic operations and utilizes the logo to be able to manually turn on various different control options.

This sprinkler controller is much more complex than I thought when I ordered it. I did not realize that it needed to be integrated with an underground sprinkler system. It probably needs an electrician to hook it up properly. Therefore, it will be a while before I am able to install it, especially now that winter is almost here. B-hyve timers allow you to control your watering from anywhere in the world on your iOS or Android device or via the web app while saving water and lowering your water bill. WeatherSense technology uses advanced local weather data automatically creating watering schedules that deliver the right amount of water to your plants, avoiding any water waste. As an older person that is not totally tech-saavy I was hesitant to utilize smart systems around my home. Slowly I have been updating the systems and this Orbit B-Hyve Smart Sprinkler controller was one I've been wanting to install. The controller came nicely packaged with a simple easy to navigate and read installation manuel and some installation hardware. The push connectors for the wiring made for simple and fast wiring. Since I was only running 3 zones it took me less than 5 minutes to finish the connections. The port to run the sprinkler valve wiring is the perfect size for up to 8 zones and has a tight connection that looks super clean. The port is expandable in size if running larger or additional wiring. Another really nice touch is the built-in level which made leveling the controller a breeze. Once the installation was done I downloaded the Orbit B-Hyve app onto my iPhone and pair with home wifi. The access plate for the wiring is held in place magnetically and has instructions printed on the inside if necessary. Customizing the watering zones was simple and straight forward. The app offers "Smart Watering" that could automatically set the time and frequency of watering by asking some questions of the soil, whether plants or lawn, number of sprinkler heads, partial shade or full sun, or you can set it up manually. Using the app I can track my watering schedules, do updates or modifcations and test individual zones. I am impressed how simple and intuitive the installation and programing were. Total time spent with installation and programing was about 45 minutes, which included testing each zone several times for functionality.

I'm coming from being a long time Rachio user. Needing some additional zones I opted to try something new with the B-Hyve. First impressions thus far are good but I do have some minor concerns.  First up the good - The software is very good. It's visually appealing and very easy to navigate around, set up programs, and toggle through any of the settings. I'd give the nod to Orbit over Rachio in this instance. The cable management is also very good with clear marking for the zones and quick push-button clamps for each wire. Next, a few things I was excited about but have actually changed my opinion on since: The actual unit is IP65 rated meaning you can mount it outdoors, which is where my controller is now. I recall being slightly annoyed that I had to purchase a seperate weather rated housing for the Rachio, but in retrospect it's probably a good thing. I admit the B-Hyve would probably be fine against dust and rain, but having the extra housing is nice to keep things clean and protected. This thing is pretty thick so I can't reuse the old house I had for the Rachio either.  As cool as the front little LCD displays I don't have much faith they can withstand years of desert sun exposure and heat.  In addition I've not met a rubber that can withstand that same heat so have some concerns the rubberized button will stand the test of time. On the topic of the button I thought it would be cool to have some basic controls right on the unit and to an extent it is, but it's hardly intuitive and by the time you look up the command you might as well just have whipped out your phone. Not to mention when trying to toggle through I actually reset the unit which was certainly annoying.  Last but not least the unit actually got quite warm, much warmer than the Rachio under ambient temperatures. I hope that's just part of the engineering but in my experience heat tends to kill electronics over time. Mix that with my concerns of the desert heat in my area and it's certainly something to look out for. So is it good? I think so, and so far so good from what I've experienced. If I had an indoor mounting spot I'd be even more enthusiastic. Rachio has provided me with 6 years of flawless service - so I'm hoping for much of the same here.

This is a great unit. It is an inside/outside controller enabling you to put it in weather that other smart controllers can't handle. It also has a nice display with manual control options. I have owned another brand controller that did not allow you to control manually; this is a great feature. It also allows you to control by Bluetooth instead of just wifi, so if your network is down, you can still control it with your phone. However, the online program that you use to set the timing does not allow you to run two zones at once. That kind of bummed me out and made it so I had to switch my whole watering schedule around. Other than that, easy to use, great features, and durable.

We choose this b-hyve product thinking we could use it to help water our vegetable gardens but it didn't work out. This is meant to be a controller for a lawn sprinkler system. The panel measures approximately 9" x 6 3/4" x 2" deep. It has a 5' cord. It will easily mount on a screw or nail in doors or outdoors. It needs to be hard wired. We tried to download the B-Hyve app on our phones but were unsuccessful because it requires ios 13.0 or later and we have iphone 6's but will try again once we get a newer phone. Great concept to be able to control your sprinkler via your phone as well as with a timer but needed to give it a lower review since we were unable to get it work!!

This unit is an absolute beauty. It comes with 8 zones you can wire into the controller, you can add a pump and two additional 24 volt items to this controller. I am in the process of building my irrigation system and this will give me one of my dream scenarios. The ability to set up schedules, monitor my irrigation, remote access via the app! The B-hyve® XR smart sprinkler timer for indoor and outdoor installation utilizes a 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz dual-band connection.(The connection to WIFI and bluetooth was super easy to set up!) High powered, long-range radios give a better connection at further distances. Smart watering features automatically adjust the watering schedule with changing weather. The other beauty of this controller is it connects directly with local weather, gives you the current temperature and if its sunny or raining! If its raining the controller knows and will stop water from flowing. The front screen shows you the time, current conditions temp etc and whether you are connected to the wifi or not. Adjusts to Weather Automatically adjusts to weather changes, delays watering in the rain, and gives more water in dryer times as needed. Easy Programming on Free App Create watering schedules, set duration times, get alerts, and easily control all of your watering right from the app on your smartphone. iOS or Android. The app is super easy to use. You can add sprinklers zones etc easily. View how long and how much its watered or whether it has or not. A great way to track your water usage! Stronger Wi-Fi Connection A stronger Wi-Fi connection is achieved with dual high-powered radios, allowing you more control at greater distances with no Wi-Fi interference issues. I am super happy with this unit and cannot wait to get it connected to my irrigation system and fulfill a bucket item list. Watering my yard and garden from my phone! How cool is that!

I have a small orchard with 2 50 ft rows of strawberries, 1 50 ft row of Blueberries, the same for Blackberries and 4 rows of Muscadines all irrigated. I have valves for each of the 4 zones wired in. I downloaded the app, created an account, it found my wifi easily and I set up my zones. My Blueberry zone was first as they do not need as much water, then the other 3. I did a test run for each and everything worked well. I am liking having control of all my watering from my phone. NOTE If you leave your water spigot on just make sure you have no leaks as it will continue to leak, I learned.

What a fabulous way to take control over my outdoor watering! I provided a "before" photo of the old, rickety irrigation box that came with this house. It was a nightmare to program - and also very unreliable. When I spotted this Orbit B-Hyve VR Smart Sprinkler Controller, I was very excited to give it a try. The installation was a breeze (although I am going install a protective outer box because of our scorching Arizona summers) and the set-up was also very easy. It uses wi-fi and a cell phone app that you download for free. Just be sure to have your computer's wi-fi password handy - you will need that. This system accommodates up to 16 different watering zones and each is very simple to set up. Give each zone a name and program the days/times you want those zones to be watered. When you return to the "Home" screen on your phone, you'll see a calendar and schedule of your watering events. The system even provides rainy day alerts and a manual option, so you won't waste water when it rains. So far, I am loving this controller. Its sleek, modern look and cell phone compatibility make it accessible from anywhere in the world where there's a signal. So, if I'm lucky enough to be in Tuscany, I can still operate the system from my phone. :-) This system is a game-changer! Highly recommended.

Orbit has come out with some great new products over the past three years; I've had a great experience with another b-hyve item. So I'm looking forward to stepping up my game with this item (#57995, Model WT26). You're going to find the included paper instructions to be very limited [an opportunity for improvement here]. What's made a big difference in my respect for the company is their friendly and helpful Customer Service. I hope they keep up that good work. Now, I have to be honest. I only got this a few weeks ago and I've yet to install it. But, as with their other products, unless there's a bug in the software, I expect it to go smoothly. I'll be installing the system for a new, 2,500 sq ft raised bed vegetable garden. Most importantly, I'll be taking advantage of the rain sensor and dual-band wi-fi feature to control my watering from 80 miles away. The GUI is more than adequate. P.S. If you're wondering how to remove the lower access panel ... it's attached with super magnets so just swing upward from the "Orbit" logo!

Love it! The new design from Orbit is really great! I love the modern LED / LCD displays. They used the honeycombs in such a creative manner, gives you all the information you need right there, while the main center button flashes different colors to indicate connectivity or rain delays, etc. installation only required me to drill one additional hole at the top so the new timer could be secured in place. I was able to reuse one of the bottom screws and even the same conduit! I was really counting on the knockout on the bottom of the unit so I could reuse the conduit. The metal ring did get snug against the uneven surface of the timer’s case, but I made it work. This new timer should NOT be installed outdoors if at all possible. Avoid direct sunlight if you do, as that will definitely just take its toll on the displays. It’s also definitely not waterproof, the bottom part just snaps in with a magnet! That’s not waterproof! I wouldn’t trust it outside, but lucky for me my existing one that it replaced was already installed inside my garage. It will be perfectly fine there. I’m sure it would work outside where it has some cover or protection from the elements, but I just think it’s much better if you can install it in your garage or some other partially protected area. Setup was easy after I plugged it in, the new design allows you to connect via Bluetooth, so right away the app will automatically detect the timer and ask you to confirm the MAC address. After that, connect wifi easily and the timer will go through a firmware update. Takes about 3 minutes and the app and the device will seem like nothing is happening, just wait and be patient, it will work soon enough. After the firmware update is complete, the smartphone app walks you through setup. I only had 2 zones so it didn’t take long at all, took pictures as I went to show each zone and then I entered in all the smart data for smart watering, including the water restrictions. It’s been rainy in south Florida and the timer picked right up on it!! Excellent! All the zones tested fine, can’t wait to see it in action and see the data flow in after a month or so! Best part is the 5G signal capability, I think the old unit was causing headaches with my garage door wireless control, now everything is smooth sailing!! No more wireless conflicts! Wonderful improvement!! Get yours today!!

My original timer, see pic 1, was a combination of a manual dial with an LED display. It did the job. However, living in Florida, I water 2 zones twice a week, you always worry that it will rain then the timer waters, it can get expensive. The B-hyve xr8 has Whether sense technology. Another plus is dual-band WI-FI, ( 2.4 or 5 GHz ), has a (BLE) Bluetooth radio, and will work with Alexa and Google voice commands. The app was easy to set up on my tablet. A little hint, while sitting in my office I just plugged it in and set the timer up sitting in the comfort of the A/C. Hint 2, remove the knockout before you mount the timer. Since I had an existing timer, I was able to use the existing mounting screws. Wiring is a breeze, strip the wires and utilize the push and go wiring terminals. Since it was already programmed it only took 15 minutes to install and I was in business. Yes, you can manually control it, without having to utilize the app, by easily removing the magnetic cover. Then push the big "B" on the front and follow the directions on the inside of the cover. If the 3 lighted displays are too bright, you can turn them off. This is an indoor/outdoor timer, 110 volts only. Whether you use it indoors or out it has a "Digital lockout" feature to prevent others from illicit tampering. Everything else is "SMART", why not your sprinkler timer.

This is solidly built, Easy to install, use, and program. What a quantum leap from my 20 year old irrigation controller! This thing feels heavy and solid. The terminal cover is magnet held so it pulls off and reinstalls nicely. Wiring lands easily. Install the app on your phone, plug the unit in, and it walks you through install. Ease of programming is awesome, especially after using the old style one for decades. Controls up to 16 zones that can be individually programmed. And, this may not really matter, bur it looks cool. It is nice to be able to turn any zone off or on, or set to rain delay, from your phone as long as you have signal.

What will they think of next? This Orbit B hyve XR sprinkler timer is the next step in convenience for sprinklers. It can be mounted outdoors or inside, wherever it is convenient near an electrical outlet. There are three LED displays to show what has been programed. I like the easy connect wiring terminals. It saves water in the long run which is always a good idea. The app for the phone makes it so easy to change settings from anywhere.

I needed to upgrade in order to add another 5 zones for my back yard. I also wanted to ensure the new controller would have a connection for my rain sensor. I have a five zone system that was used for my front yard. When I saw this Orbit Wi-Fi controller with the ability to run 16 zones, I figured it was worth a try. It was a simple task to transfer my existing sprinkler controller to this Orbit B-Hyve XR 16-zone smart sprinkler controller. The app was easy to install. Setting up the zones in the app was also a breeze. It allowed me to set up for the watering restrictions in my area. I initially had problems pairing the controller to my phone via Bluetooth. When I could not pair them, I installed the app which took care of the entire setup. Now I can expand my zones and not have to run to the basement whenever I want to make a change to my watering schedule.

The Orbit B-Hyve XR Smart Sprinkler controller is their newest state-of-the art timer designed to work with any 24-volt standard sprinkler valve system. This is an sixteen zone unit. There are three common terminals, a master common terminal, and one each for zones 1-8 and 9-16. The controlled is designed for both outdoor or indoor use. The system is designed to function best with a wi-fi and smart phone connection. Manual operation is possible from the unit – manually watering all zones, manually running a program, or manual watering individual zones. Manual operation directions are printed on the timer’s inner wire bank cover, attached to the unit by two small magnets for easy removal. A full-color digital displays and a multi-color LED B-Hyve light ring allow you to see and control what the timer is doing at the unit. To get the full benefit of the system, go with the app. The controlled offers multiple connection methods, supporting both 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz Wi-Fi, and it has a long-range Bluetooth (BLE 5) radio. The controller timer will need to be in range of your home network. To set up, download the B-hyve app to your smart phone, create an account, plug in the station, and follow the directions to link to your network. It took two tries to get the system to link, primarily due to the poor wi-fi signal in my garage, but once linked, the connection has been steady. Next follow the step-by-step directions on your smart phone to program the unit. Electric connections are easy, just connect your value wires to each zone with the push to connect wiring terminals. Optional connections for a rain sensor and a 24-Volt out to control a pump. Setting up the program on the smart phone was a snap. You define the zone, a program start time, the days to water, and a zone run time. There are four programs you can set in addition to smart watering, and each program can be set for up to four different start times if you want multiple watering during a day. You can set up the Smart Weather Sense system which uses the internet to check your local weather and then automatically waters based on parameters you enter such as soil type, plant type, and other parameters. You can start a program or manually water any zone at any time from your smart phone. Additionally, you can set rain delay and seasonal adjust, where you enter either a positive or negative percentage to adjust the run times of all the zones based on the time of the year. This is a very nice unit that allows you complete control of your watering needs or it can be set to check the weather and take care of it all for you – saving water too. Another good thing about controlling the system from your smart phone is when you are starting up or trouble shooting operation, you don’t have to trek back to the timer to change zones or start/stop a zone. This feature saves allot of steps! Black plastic high impact case looks great too! Built in Lithium battery stores data during power loss.

This is a must have water, time, frustration saver system! The product is well thought out and the app is easy to understand and easy to program. I no longer have to get wet and run back and forth from the zone to the box in the garage to adjust my sprinklers heads. Complete control is at your fingertips on your smart phone. Holy cow! how did I live without this? Since I was replacing an old rainbird unit all of the wiring was done so it took me 10 minutes to install the unit. Of course I had to download the app and set up my specifications on the app. But that was simple too and could be done from my couch. Once installed (with a screwdriver) I downloaded the app. The app is connected to the internet (via WiFi) and to your smart device (via bluetooth) and therefore the weather report. The app will give notifications of rain or cooler days so you can adjust on the fly. There are 4 programmable setting for different seasons. There is also a SMART setting that incorporates the weather to adjust your watering patterns. I have not tried this. The system allows you to walk around the yard and turn on or off any zone and test you coverage without having to go into the garage and mess with the physical box. What a time savier and in my case I don't have to get drenched running through the sprinkler to get to the sprinkler head that needs attention. This is going to save me so much time and aggravation. Buy this!! It also attaches to Alexa and Google. However, I have not fiddled with it yet. You can also upgrade the system with a rain detection device to control the water usage even more.

I don’t know how long these smart controllers been on the market, but I wish I had this long ago. These smart controllers are basically a "set it and forget it" type of device which is essential when it comes to watering your lawn. This controller simply eliminates the guess work of when and how much watering for good/bad weather days. It will pre-determine how much (if at all) pending weather prediction from the weather data through the internet. Mounting is simple. It comes with a built-in leveler before you secure the bottom screw (see picture). The only issue I have is initial setup of my zones properly. You truely need to be a soil scientist to know exactly how to setup the “metrics” (as the app calls the editable file) of your lawn which I have ZERO knowledge and the same goes for my neighbor who has a similar type of controller. I love the purpose of these controllers, just hope they create a better firmware to simplify how to determine what’s best for your lawn. If you specialize in this area, you’ll skate right through this process. For the rest of us, we need more simplification please and thank you! Overall great device to have and can only imagine the money I will save in the future.

A hardware upgrade to the previous version. I've been using the previous controller for a couple of years and never had a problem. I don't anticipate any problems with this upgrade. Installing the controller is simple (follow the instructions) basically, push in the valve electrical control lines and plug the controller in. That's when the fun and real magic begins. This controller can be fully customized using the Orbit app, (schedules, rain delays, timer, manual operation, etc). For me the real magic is in the Smart Watering system. Most of it is easy to set up (soil type, slope, sun exposure, plant type, etc). The most difficult part to figure out is how much water the irrigation heads put out. They recommend a cup test, but I'd rather use flow rate, total number of heads and square footage, then convert all that to precipitation rate (calculations are on the web). I set my zones to half an inch of water at a time. We get frequent rain in Florida, so that easily gets me through to the next rain event without wasting water. As an example, this summer my lawn has been smart-watered only nine times over three months. Whereas, manually watering three times a week would result in approximately thirty-six times. Just the water saving alone pays for the system, but that's not why I rely on smart watering. Too much water can easily create a fungus problem. My lawn has never looked better. A good part of that is proper irrigation. Although there are other, more costly, systems out there, I have not had any problems with the Orbit system (set it and forget it), haven't touched the hardware since installation (all interaction through the app).

I had a 3 zone sprinkler system and recently updated to 5 zone and both are bhyve. This was the best upgrade controller I made its beautiful on my garage wall and even though I used the app 100% for the device, I can see what the device is doing on the screen and not just the lights flashing colors. Awesome, keeps up to date softwares and beautiful.

        Smart Watering on B-hyve XR
Can not get Smart Watering to work with the iPhone app -- will not store/remember some needed information. Had many tech support text/phone calls to fix this. Orbit is aware of this and does not have a fix as of this posting.

Works great, cut my water bill in half!
The water bill in my new home was hovering around 120-130 and I thought this was a bit high. I realized the sprinkler schedule was set to 6 days x 20min per zone which I thought was a bit high despite the full sun my lawn gets. I decided to get a smart sprinkler controller and this one had all the bells and whistles. It was easy to install myself and once I set up the smart watering system, it now only runs a couple times a week and the automatic rain delay works wonderfully. My last 2 bills were for 60-70 so this will pay for itself in just a couple of months.
