Product Overview

If you are looking for a high-power, low-noise electric chainsaw for trimming branches and limbs in your yard, the Oregon CS1500 corded chainsaw is the right choice. Save yourself time and hassle, since the CS1500 starts instantly and doesn’t require any gas-oil mixing. Made by the world's leading saw chain manufacturer, this chainsaw features an 18" chain that you can sharpen on the saw in 3 seconds with the pull of a lever. The automatic oiler distributes oil on the bar and chain while on the saw, keeping your chainsaw lubricated and preventing premature wear.
  • Includes 18” guide bar and PowerSharp chain, which minimizes downtime by allowing you to sharpen your chain on the saw in 3 seconds or less.
  • The chain stays oiled using the built-in Lubri-Tec oiling system which reduces chain friction and increases the saw’s run time.

The Black and Decker is a model CS1518, the Oregon is a model CS1500. Coincidence? I think not. I think they were both made by the same manufacturer, and then resold by the individual companies. But, there might be differences that you cannot see from the pictures. One might have larger bearings, the other might have metal reinforcements, the only way to tell is to dismantle the two saws, side-by-side. I am very happy with my purchase of the Oregon CS1500, and I think it will probably last a long while with appropriate care. The Oregon does have a different type of saw chain, so cutting will be slightly different. It is possible to install a standard chain on the Oregon, but why bother. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If you were satisfied with the operation and performance of the Black and Decker, then I think you will be very happy with the Oregon.

What diameter of log would this cut?

Answers

Thank you for contacting Oregon, Diane. A guideline to consider is to use a bar that is no more than than two inches longer than the diameter of what you need to cut. For instance, if you need to cut a tree that is 16” across, it is recommended to use a bar that is no longer than 18”. It's very sharp and very good but just for a short time! I bought it brand new. At first, I used it to cut hard wood trunks for about 20 minutes, then it needed to be self-sharpened. After one hour of cutting with four times of self-sharpening, even though I tried to have it self-sharpened the fifth time, the chain-saw still remained dull. Any way, I still say thank you to the Oregon Chain Saw Factory. Please take a look at the attached photo showing the logs and branches I cut by Oregon 18in. 15 Amp Self-Sharpening Corded Electric Chainsaw on 10/26th, 2020..

Had borrowed my neighbors new gas chainsaw and while it did the job, constantly having to restart before cutting was a pain. This saw only needs chain lube and electricity. Get a heavy duty extension cord and every time you pick up the saw you are ready to cut. Instant start and stop without the loud noise and smell. You can't drive the chain by accidentally squeezing the trigger as the safety side switch needs to be enabled. The chain came assembled but you have to take off the chain and bar to prime the lube. Also the chain bar is straight instead of tilted up which means if you are not careful when putting on the ground you'll get dirt on the chain. No tools required to remove chain and bar or to adjust chain tension. Plug into 15 amp circuit with nothing else running on it. With a thick cord you can go up to 100 feet from the outlet. For those of you afraid of cutting the cord, with the proper saw safety techniques that should never happen.

So far this thing is surpassing my expectations and very glad that I went with it. I ordered it online after doing some research and seeing what else was out there in the local stores. My previous electric chain saw that I purchased around 2001 is a joke compared to this thing. I like the clutch function just like gas powered models have. The kick back brake is nice too although I haven't had any kick back issues but this maybe in part to the chain design. It weighs more than the old one but what do you expect with a better built product. I bought it a month ago to take care of a Green Ash tree and to cut down the old apple trees in the orchard. I have given it a good work out recently with the Derecho that mother nature decided to throw at us. Lost a whole walnut tree and a branch out of a maple. It cuts through branches and good sized stuff up to probably 16 inches like a hot knife in butter. The self sharping blade so far is working out super well. Time will tell how much life the chain is good for before it requires replacement. I like the bar adjustment procedure and not sure why some people say that it loosens up. Sure beats having to mess with a wrench and a screw driver. Maybe they can't read instructions? The bar oiler holds a decent amount of oil and actually auto oils the bar instead of having to push a bulb. As long as you have AC then you are good to go.

I bought this after reading all the great positive reviews. I've just added another positive 5stars. Like another reviewer wrote, after reading the instructions, you have to prime the oiler for a minute or so WITH THE BAR and CHAIN removed. They even provide a small amount of bar & chain oil which is nice. That was easy but like another reviewer stated, putting the bar and chain back on takes patience for sure. This is a VERY WELL DESIGNED electric chain saw. This saw is 100 times better than my last cheap electric saw with a reg. chain. This saw ate through a bunch of Red-Tip hedge trunks like they were soft white pine. These Red-Tip trunks and branches are rock hard and solid and also very heavy! The teeth on this chain are aggressive and saw with an attitude for destruction. Like another reviewer stated and per instructions, the blade has to be tightened shortly after using the saw for a couple of minutes. Then the tension has to be watched less and less but still keep an eye on it. I'm 63 and this saw made my chain sawing need SOOO much easier! It's heavier than my old elec. saw but I had to use this Oregon 100 times less! After a solid 4 hrs. of saw or more, I thought the need to see if sharpening the chain would make the teeth like new. It does! This has to be one of the best 100.00 I've ever spent on a tool for yard work. I worked two afternoons in 97 degree heat sawing this old hedges trunks down and transporting the cuts to my neighbors yard. I called him first of course. This saw made it possible. The hard part was wheel barrowing the cuts to my neighbors front roadside . My yard is the best it's been in 30 years or so. I didn't want to stack it up on my thick lawn 5 days before the City would pick it up. Thank you Oregon for making this outstanding chain saw affordable to a frugal guy.

Oregon is a big name in saw chains, so you gotta figure it's a good saw if they put their name & reputation on it. And it delivers. Manual was easy to follow for initial setup. As the manual says, you need to check the chain tension frequently at first as the chain will stretch as you use it. Popped off 2 or 3 times the first day, but not since. It's very easy to clean out the sawdust after each use & check tension before each use. My only complaint is the bar/chain oil reservoir. There is no sight to see the level (which doesn't matter too much, since I fill it every time); but what is much more annoying is the fill hole. Since it points almost straight to the side, you need to tilt the saw to pour in oil. But since you can't see the level it will suddenly be overfull, and when you set it down, it pours out over the saw making a mess...

Bought this saw in a Nov 2018 used it a little.Just this week July 1st 19 I put it to the test. I had the chain slip off when I.tryed to cut small branches at them tip. I then cut them toward the motor at the bottom. No problem what so ever. I also put a washer between the sprocket and snap ring. People said the chain would come off. Even after the chain had slack in it ran okay. I cut 10 inch and larger wood. Never had a problem. I would highly recommend this saw. I still miss the the smell of gas & oil ...Lol

Best electric chainsaw I've owned and used. Very powerful and easily cuts through large diameter trees. I've owned this saw for about a month and have used it several times. Based on my experience, if used properly, I can't imagine anyone being disappointed with this saw. The self sharpening and self bar oiling features helps make this saw even easier to use. It definitely met my expectations.
