Questions & Answers

Will this kill my clover?

I am replacing my grass (mostly crabgrass) lawn with clover. About 1/4 of the lawn has been taken over by the clover. If I use this product carefully will I still kill the clover? Also my expansive lawn is 300 sq.ft. is one bottle enough?
Asked by: Godiva
Any product with 2,4-D acid will kill clover, but it all depends on the concentration how effective it will be. Most products that mention clover have it ~ 5-6%. You also need to add surfactant for better contact- I add regular J&J baby shampoo, 1oz/gal. it works and smells great.

I decided to try this ortho weed b gon on small weeds, normally i use trimec from tractor supply. One week later the weeds are still there. The weeds are the size of a quarter, so i consider this small weeds. I put 4 ounces of ortho to a gallon of water. Average temperature applied around 60 plus degrees. So i will head back to tractor supply for some more trimec. Lesson learned when something is working don't mess with it. Now i will have to go back and respray son's lawn as well.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bottle was broken or something I bought this bottle, hooked it up and realized in the middle of it that it wasn't spraying any product. I thought I was not watering enough but after a full lawn watering almost nothing has come out. My water pressure is great and I set it to "on". The bottle container seemed to be getting filled with water than spraying out. First time user of a house attachment and disappointed with the experience.

This year I got Weed B Gone and hit them as soon as they appeared, and for about two weeks more came up every day and I hit those also. I think I have gotten them all except for those that start with a seed flying in from a neighbors yard, So far it looks that the Weed B Gone has done an excellent job.

Product works great. However, I found the dial and spray applicator did not attach to the Weed B Gon bottle very well. It fell off twice. I now have did grass in those locations that will have to be reseeded. Recommend pouring the product in the Dial and spray bottle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than expected! Absolutely works as advertised. Crabgrass simply disappears. I would have preferred an application via my Scott's spreader but can't ague with success. The application process wasn't difficult. It probably took the same amount of time a spreader application. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Moderately effective in September in East Tennessee I bought this W-B-G concentrate to combat Chickweed, White Clover and the remaining Smooth Crabgrass in my Tall Fescue lawn here in eastern Tennessee. (I had earlier hand weeded 90% of the crabgrass in my lawn.) I applied the product in mid-September strictly by the instructions and when daily temperatures were 60-85 degrees. I waited two full days before watering my lawn to allow the product to be absorbed. I'm writing this review in early October, about three weeks after applying the product. The results have been mixed. The chickweed is dead, the crabgrass was harmed (but not killed), and the clover is unfazed. I don't mind so much about the clover but I am disappointed that the crabgrass was not killed. At this point the crabgrass has produced mature seed heads so killing the crabgrass plant is mostly academic. Next year I will apply this product in July to see if it is more efficacious in mid-season. I give Ortho thumbs-ups for the easy-to-open seal and easy pour spout.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Happy with it easy to use. Kill the crabgrass while while leaving the lawn alone. You can maintain your lawn without that much effort.Thats a bonus for me. And it last a long time. Would recommend using this product if the crabgrass is taking over. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

How do they get away manufacturing and selling such poor product? I may attempt to try a second spray but already feel it's a futile effort on my part with such poor product.
