FOR 1.33 GAL HOW MUCH SQUARE FEET DOES WEED B GONE COVER OF LAWN

Asked by MARIE March 31, 2021

Answers

This product is not for use to spray an entire lawn. It is intended for spraying individual or clumps of weeds in a lawn. If you want to treat your entire lawn Home Depot carries a similar Ortho product that you connect to your garden hose to spray the entire lawn. It will treat 5000 sq. feet. There are other granule Ortho products at H D that you can apply with a drop or rotary spreader to kill weeds.

Hi! Is this safe for St Augustine grass?

Asked by ANA November 9, 2020

Answers

The product label says it is not for use on St Augustine grass. Ortho sells a Weed B Gone product specifically for use on St/ Augustine Grass. Home Depot web site https://www.homedepot.com/p/Ortho-Weed-B-Gon-32-oz-Ready-to-Spray-Weed-Killer-for-St-Augustine-Grass-0193610PM/205563801 indicates the product is available for delivery to the nearest store. This is a hose end sprayer set-up. I don't know if there is a concentrated option but it is worth a look if that is your preference.

will this work on crabgrass in late August.

I have found it works on crabgrass anytime (but keep in mind that crabgrass can be hard to kill). I suggest using "Scotts Turfbuilder, Halts Crabgrass" in early spring, before the 3rd or 4th mowing (before you see the crabgrass) to have less crabgrass during the season. Of course, always read the product directions before using any product.

Killed my lawn
I had beautiful tall fescue/blue grass/perr rye mix lawn. This summer I had some crabgrass growth and used this product as a part of my fall weed treatment. I have been working on the lawn for several years and has fare idea of different fertilizers, grass seeds and weed killers. This is the first time I used this product. Followed the steps to the T. All it did was KILL my lawn completely! I will not recommend this product. All I can say is I fell for their advertisement.

Our apologies that your lawn experienced damage after using Ortho Weed B Gon Plus Crabgrass Control. When used according to labeled instructions, this product will not harm listed lawn grasses. While there is a safety factor built into this product, a heavy over-application can cause damage to listed lawns. In this case, extra water may help lawn recover in a period of several weeks. I would advise consumer to thoroughly water the lawn 3-4 days a week for the next 3 weeks to try an minimize damage and possibly revive the grass. This is not what we expect from this product, and we would be interested in discussing this further so that we can learn more about this issue and extend our product guarantee. At your earliest convenience, please contact us and refer to your review to see what can be done. We can be reached at 877-220-3089. ortho

Overall, it works for me, but it has been a toss up between leaving quite a few patches to fill in later. The key also, though it may spread the weeds, I found out that cutting the grass then spray works. I've used it before and after cutting and same patches/burned out spots.

Kills Crabgrass!
It’s been a bad year for crabgrass. I had earlier put down the crabgrass preventive, but in August it came up like wild fire! I had one area in my back yard that really got it bad. It was choking out the good grass! I read the directions, paying close attention on how and when to apply. Within a couple of days you could see brown patches on the crabgrass. Within a week the crabgrass was browning and dying (see photo). I can’t understand some of the negative reviews other than they mistakened what crabgrass was or applied it incorectly. Of course as the crabgrass dies, I got bare patches that should grow back in with the good grass.

We are sorry that you are disappointed with your purchase of Ortho Weed B Gon Plus Crabgrass Control. While you should see some signs of wilt in the first 24 hours, it can take up to 3 weeks for a complete kill, in ideal conditions. If your temperatures are frequently rising above 85 degrees, this will slow the results. We would be interested in speaking with you further about this so that we can learn why the product may not have worked. If you would be willing, we ask that you contact us at 877-220-3089 and refer to your review so that we can make a more complete report to our Quality Assurance Department. ortho

Buyer Beware...
In an effort to give my back a rest from bending over to pull weeds, I regretfully turned to this stuff under the impression that it would only kill the weeds and not the lawn. After reading the instructions, which stated there "may be browning if used with bermuda grass. But it is only temporary", or something to that effect, and also testing it on an area that had crabgrass, which by the way, was a futile effort because while that particular area wasn't damaged by the Ortho, it didn't kill the crabgrass either, I waited until it cooled off a bit and started spot treating the rest of the lawn. A couple weeks went by and I started seeing brown patches. I thought to myself "Ok, that is just temporary." Another couple weeks went by, but the spots seemed to worsen and that's when I started to panic. Now, unfortunately, there are yellow spots everywhere on my lawn. We had just moved into this house and I spent the last 8 months getting rid of weeds and bringing our lawn back to life. Now this. A neighbor actually came to my house to tell me he thinks I have a bad case of dollar spot in the yard. I embarrassingly had to tell him it was from Ortho's product and to avoid it at all costs. I unfortunately have to let everyone here know as well. Buyer beware. What other people are saying is true. There's a good chance this stuff will kill your grass. The only reason I am giving it a single star is because it seems to be the only product that I have tried that kills Creeping Charlie. Other then that, I cannot recommend this product.

This is one of the best all-around weed killers out there for you lawn. Used at proper doses, it will not kill your lawn but it will kill a lot of weeds although it can take up to a week. I combine this with triclopyr (CCO, Chickweed, Clover and Oxalis) in tanks and it takes out most weeds. This concentrate uses 2.5 oz per gallon compared to a competitor which used the same formula but 5 oz/gallon, so this bottle is a good value. The cap for this bottle has a measuring cup. I have only struggled to kill wild violets (my arch enemy) with it. This will kill them when they are young and stress them but once established, I find it near impossible to kill them. The herbicide does list violets as a weed it kills. It contains 2, 4-D and Dicamba which are nasty herbicides that kill bees and can drift onto other plants, so I use it sparingly. This chemical does have a nasty smell to to it and I always wear gloves when mixing. Since I have kids who use the lawn, I always spray in the evening before a morning or overnight storm. This spray is rain proof in one hour. If temperatures are above 80 degrees or the lawn is drought stressed, I do not spray. Active ingredients: 0.313% 2, 4-D Dimethylamine Salt; 0.104% Quinclorac; 0.029 Dicamba, Dimethylamine Salt

Disappointing nozzle design change
While the product works well, and I’ve used it for years, the latest bottle design is highly disappointing. The new nozzle is far less precise leading to overspray and makes the product much more difficult to apply evenely and keep from spraying onto unintended areas. The old design was much more precise and easier to control.
