Pipe Decor pipe and nipples are genuine Sch. 40 black steel that have been hydrostatically tested and is ASTM and ASME compliant. Each pipe comes pre-threaded, is free of any stickers and comes coated in a light industrial grease to prevent rust. This convenient pack of pipe is ideal for creating vintage industrial pipe furniture. Building with pipe and fittings is a fun and cost-effective way to create your own unique tables, desks, lighting fixtures or shelving. Clean and seal all pipe and fittings prior to use to prevent rust. This pipe is also meant for use in standard gas, air and LP plumbing applications.

Q:Will these pipes rust if used outdoors? Is there a suggestion to prevent rust over the long term?

Answer This Question

A:  Yes, the pipes will rust. Sealing with paint is good, a few coats of Rustoleum would be best. You'll need to clean the pipe before painting/sealing.

    A:  Our pipe and fittings are coated in a rust preventative oil. Before putting your kit together, wipe down and clean the pipes and fittings then immediately spray with polyurethane to seal. Be careful to not cake the sealant on the threads. You can use our pipe and fittings as is, but they might get you dirty. Even with rigorous cleaning and sealing using our tables outside might result in rusting. We would recommend painting it with an enamel color.
