Can these be used in brick??

Concrete patio is now covered with 3 1/2 inch pavers. Need to reinstall the anchors for the hurricane panels. They are dense brick, not inexpensive walkway stuff.
Asked by: Rollo
Hi Rollo, yes you can use these in brick. I prefer to use wedge or sleeve anchors. They hold better.

I am a weekend warrior, but to protect my properties from Hurricanes I opted for a more permanent to wall mount my Hurricane shutters. You have to be able to use a masonry bit to drill the holes into your house. and you need to drill a center hole deeper than than anchor will go, say a another inch for the longer screws. TIP #! - The part with the wedge goes into the deepest part of the wall. NOW THEY MOST IMPORTANT TIP: There is a separate punch that you have to use with a hammer to expand the lead to make the anchor go tight in the wall. You need to buy one of these!!! Just one. ALSO if you find that once you put the screw in and doesn't want to come in out out of the anchor and JUST SPINS WITH THE ANCHOR... This means that you have to back the screw out by putting pressure using a screw driver wedged between the wall and the screw head, while using your drill in reverse to get the screw out. Once you have the screw out of the wall: Take the Punch tool and a hammer, give it a couple of good knocks and the screw should start work as intended. This just loosen over time or if you didn't hit it harden enough when you where putting them in. Don't sweat it, it happens.

Was advised to drill 1/2" hole 1" deep but if mounted flush with wall overly long threaded bolts will not snug up closely. Be sure to use proper length bolts. Have used these before, they look good and install easily with hammer drill in block walls.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great anchors for soft masonry or concrete. These are 1/4 X 20 machine threaded anchors. They work very well in brick and cinder block. Do not use them in overhead applications. Because, in the event of a fire they will melt and release the supported load.
