I screwed this bulb into the ceiling light fixture on my porch, added the glass globe and then turned the switch on. I wasn't sure it would work with the glass cover which it did and the amount of light it emits is great. It comes on at dusk and at times goes out for a minute or so and then comes right back on. I am very happy with this bulb since I could never get a fixture to fit because it hit the screen door. With this being a bulb replacement in the light fixture it works fine. I am very pleased with this light bulb and have been using it for about two weeks and would definitely recommend it. It meets all my expectations and I never have to worry about not having a light to see to get to the front porch.

There’s more here than meets the (electric) eye. The previous version of this bulb had a 180-degree swivel allowing you to position the sensor for best performance. This latest version is a solid piece and that caused some concern when I installed it in our bulkhead-style porch light fixture. The sun had already set so I used an LED camping lantern for some light to work by. I removed the oh-so-short-lived Feit Electric LED bulb and screwed in this one. To my dismay, the sensor landed about ¾ turned toward the back plate of the fixture on the left side. Time would tell if it would work properly. I installed the globe and cage and turned on the power. When the bulb began blinking on and off, I remembered this shortcoming of first-generation devices from the previous century and how kids and teens would use tin foil and other reflectors to concoct a simple strobe light. After four equally timed blinks the bulb stayed lit and it dawned on me: the bulb was programming the sensor to ignore its own light and concentrate on ambient light. Given the relentless cost reductions of economies of scale, I wouldn't be surprised if the sensor is now a simple camera with a fisheye lens that maps out the enclosure and finds the brightest natural light source. True to my conjecture, the bulb dutifully turned off between the first glow in the east and full sunrise at a time that suggests human activity and not a predictable pattern. The only unknown right now is longevity but our first Philips bulb lasted a few years. I bought an extra so I can replace it the moment it has served out its useful life.

Not so great for a double globe light fixture
Doesn't work too well in a double globe fixture. The light from one side makes the other side think it's daylight, thus it doesn't come on... Works great in single fixtures however.

Light Bulb - Dusk to Dawn
This invention is fantastic. It saved me from replacing all my outside fixtures with new ones. Purchasing the bulb solved the issue. I no longer need to remember to turn off the outside lights by the front and back doors. My plan is to purchase another one for my lower level back door. Did not plan on that one when I ordered the other 3. I'm am extremely pleased with the bulb and that I could get it in a soft white. What's unique about this testimonial is that while I was working a volunteer day in my local THD store I was helping a customer find a replacement spotlight . We started to talk about lights in general and she mentioned about this bulb she loves but it is only available online. I helped her find her product and I learned something new about this sensor bulb and quickly ordered it once I was off shift. So... it was a win win situation - total reciprocal customer satisfaction

    A long awaited product.
I was longing for a product like this, since I was wasting energy on my drive way coach lamp. I always forget to turn it off in the morning, and it used to burn all day and night. Now, I am happy that the new technology from Philips has satisfied my desire: I can leave the switch ON all the time, and the light will go off by itself at dawn and come ON at dusk, thanks to the photo sensor in the bulb. A great product with enough light!

    A Great Solution
Just screw them in and forget about it. Way easier than setting up a timer switch. Just be aware that some bulbs may be defective in the sense that they will stay on if it is cloudy. These should be returned.

    Not worth it
I bought 2 lights, 1 work the other does not. Instead of climbing a ladder take it out, go to the store, make a line to get the money back or change it. I've decided not to turn it during day light. If you buy 1 you have 50% chance it won't work.

Works great, even in dim lighting!
I bought this dusk till dawn light because I wanted the convenience of having my front porch light on without manually turning it on and off every day (what I had been doing). Looking online I noticed this product is only available online, wished I could have purchased it in store, but the ship to store was very easy. When I got the light bulb it fit perfectly in my porch light. I was concerned about how well it would sense daylight considering my porch light has a yellow covering over it (another home depot project in the future!). I have had the light in now for several weeks and it has worked perfectly! Regardless of the day (rain or shine) the light comes on when it's getting dark and shuts off when it's light again. I will he buying this light again and would recommend it to others!

    Great product !
I didn't know anyone made this ! I wanted a dusk-to-dawn feature for my front porch light. I bought an adapter with this feature, but when I put a bulb in it, the globe wouldn't fit back on the light. Now what, buy a new fixture? Nope. This bulb does just what I wanted for under $10 bucks. Could only find it on-line,wished they carried in the store. maybe soon it'll come as an LED, but for now, its fantastic !

Perfect for patio or service door light
I replaced our patio bulb and the bulb over our garage service door with these. They fit approximately in the space of the previous conventional bulb. These are bright and now we have lights that come on conveniently at dusk and then off at dawn. They should last much longer than conventional bulbs and also save energy, while providing our home with safety and convenience.
