Questions & Answers

What is this supposed to mean?:"Energy used: 8.5-Watt (equivalent to a 100-Watt standard incandescent light bulb)"

Asked by: the72nomad
My point is that this is worded very poorly. "8.5watt=100watt."

Are they instant on?

Are these bulbs "instant on" full or do they take time to "warm up"?

Can these bulbs be used in a totaly enclosed light fixture like a bedroom ceiling light?

I purchased similar LED bulbs from a different manufacture and then found out they were, "NOT FOR USE IN A TOTALLY ENCLOSED LUMINAIRES".
Asked by: danny
Sooner or later there is going to have to be a law where they have to state the rated life in enclosed fixtures. While some bulbs do not explicitly state that they can't be used in enclosed fixtures, for the most part, you are better off using instant on compact fluorescent bulbs in enclosed fixtures. Most LED bulbs are simply unreliable in enclosed fixtures at this time. That's why you see some people have to replace them after a few months. Also, most people don't realize that recessed lighting is about the same as an enclosed fixture. There is really nowhere for the heat to escape in a recessed fixture since heat rises and has nowhere to go. I see people all the time spend $25 on a flood light bulb for their recessed lights and they die after a few months.
