A: Although you should also consider vinyl and PVC products, Pole-Wrap can be used for outdoor applications. But, like any other wood product, you must first carefully caulk around the edges and apply an oil based primer. You can then use either oil based or latex paint for your finishing coat(s). Be sure to use all exterior grade products to adequately protect the wood from weather. If you prefer a clear finish to show off the rich wood grain, use clear caulking and simply apply a couple coats of an oil based polyurethane.

Q:Can the cap covers be painted?

Answer This Question
A: All Pole-Wrap products are unfinished natural hardwood or MDF. The hardwoods are easily finished with two coats of polyurethane, but can also be stained or painted to match your decor exactly. Our MDF products should be primed with an oil, alcohol or lacquer based primer before applying a paint finish which can be latex if you choose. If you are going to color paint our hardwood products, any quality brand primer, water based latex, oil based or otherwise, will perform well.

Q:will it work on 2 1/2 inch basement heating pipe

Answer This Question
A: Got this off of Pole-Wrap website:
The excessive heat from a steam or heating pipe might damage Pole-Wrap if some type of insulation or heat shield isn't installed first. Also, you need to consider that this pipe may provide heat to maintain a comfortable room temperature. If so, you can build a heat shield around the visible portion of the pipe leaving the backside exposed for heat radiation. You would then cover the heat shield with Pole-Wrap.

A: This is not made to be installed over a heat pipe.
This is to be wrapped around a lally column in your basement, instead of boxing it out using either pine or sheetrock.

A: Yes. We had to trim ours to fit a 2.5" pipe. No problem.

A: have a look at this:

A: The inside diameter of our 4 in. size Cap and Base Set is actually 4.5 in. to allow for the thickness of our Wrap (Cap and Base is normally installed over the Wrap). So, in your case, when you apply Pole-Wrap, you may need to cut the Wrap length shorter (exactly 2-1/4 in.) to fit your PVC pipe length above the top of the Base and below the bottom of the Cap.

A: Yes , and if the base and cap doesn’t fit after installing the wrap , install it before
by|Mar 30, 2020
A: I seriously doubt it. I think 3.5" is maximum, if it will fit that. Sorry

I purchased this pole-wrap for my basement beam, didn't want to do the old-fashioned sheetrock box around the column, did some research and came across this, must say.. Very impressed with this product. well engineered, excellent quality, the instructions are very well written. took me a few day to get it done, because I decided to stain it instead of painting over it and ruining the beautiful Oak.
So, if you want to give your ugly steel columns an extravagant look, get yourself the Pole-Wrap kit, you will truly love it!

Good quality oak used. Good quality workmanship in creating the oak pieces. Easy to read and follow instructions. Kit was complete - nothing missing, damaged, etc. I have refinished a lot of antique furniture over the past 50+ years, so I have worked with varying quality of wood. The oak used in this set was a pleasure to work with. A novice can use this and create a professional looking finished product
