Hi Kathy, We are the manufacturer of Pool Time products. Our Algicide and Clarifier acts to kill algae that is present in the pool, or prevent the growth of algae in the pool. It does not have an effect on phosphate level. Our Pool Time Phosphate Remover can be used to reduce the phosphate level in your pool. If you have any other questions, please call us at 1-800-252-POOL (7665). Thank you.

You could buy 1 million gallons and it won’t do a thing. Don’t waste your money. This product does not work at all.

how much and how often do you add it to a 13,500 gallon above ground pool

Asked by SHaas August 13, 2020

The instructions call for 13oz for every 10,000 gallons of water. So for 13,500 gallons you'd use about 18oz of algicide. How often you use it depends on many factors (chemical balance, pool use, heat, sunlight, etc.). I only use it when I notice a green hue starting to form in the water, or when I feel the pool surfaces start to feel slick.

The product says "clarifier" Does that mean it has a flocculant in it?

Asked by Eliz August 4, 2020

No, clarifier gets small dirt particles on the top to skim. Flock gathers the dirt in clumps and sinks to the bottom to be vacuumed out.

Can this be used in ponds with liners and with plants??

I don’t believe so. I believe the air algae killer we’re also harm your plants. And a pond type environment you would have to use something else and for that I would consult a local nursery or a pond sales store.

Great Product
This stuff works great. It eats up whatever chlorine you have in the pool but the algae disappears. Sure glad I didn't pay attention to Doc192 feedback. I first brushed all the algae off the walls and bottom them added a half of cup to my 6000 gallon pool. Added chlorine the next day and it didn't even register on my test kit. The next day I added the same amount of chlorine and it's right where it needs to be. ALGAE is all gone. I add algaecide5 once a week now.

I have a nice big huge sticker with my order number placed right on top of the instructions for use. Talk about carelessness. I tried as hard as I could to remove the sticker without pulling the instructions off, but no such luck. This company just doesn't care.

I bought this product since there was a lot of green algae in my 25,000 gallon in-ground pool. Because of the heavy rainfalls and me not maintaining the chemical balance of the pool, the water was very green and cloudy. My pool had high PH levels and no chlorine at all. So a day before using this product I added Muriatic Acid to bring down the PH level. A few hours before using the product I added liquid chlorine and brought the chlorine level to 5 ppm (4 ppm is the normal required value). The recommended amount of Algicide was 256 oz (2 bottles) for my pool. I added 1 full bottle and another half bottle (around 192 oz) around midnight and left my pool pump running for the whole night. The next day around 8 am the pool was somewhat lighter in color but still very cloudy. I added the remaining half bottle (64 oz) and kept the pool pump running till around 3 pm. The water color was somewhat better but still cloudy. I had also bought Pool Time Super Water Clarifier (32 oz) to use along with this product. That night I added 5 oz of this water clarifier to 2 gallons of water, mixed it in a bucket and poured it along the walls of the pool. I repeated this 5 times so as to add 25 oz of the water clarifier diluted in 10 gallons of water. I didn't run the pool pump at this time. The next day I ran the pump from 8 am till noon and also added 1 packet of shock to the pool while the pump was running. By noon the cloudiness was almost gone and the color of the water was much better. For the next few days I kept running the pool pump from 8 am till noon regularly and within a week there was no sign of any green algae and my pool was shiny sparkling blue and super clear. A few months back I had used the Chlorox Algicide product when I had a similar issue and that also worked fine. I would highly recommend this product. Some people have mentioned adding more than the recommended dosage, but I don't think it's needed if you maintain the right chemical balance which is important. Some others have mentioned that it didn't work out for them. You need to realize that for this product to work, many other factors need to come into play. You need to make sure that chlorine level is higher than normal, all other chemicals are in the right balance, use the water clarifier product in the right dosage following this and also keep the pool pump running for the right amount of time. Also, don't expect results the very next day itself. It could take until a week to get things right and you really need to be patient. When some people mention that this product didn't work and then they used a different product and that worked, I am just curious if it was really because of the second product or because of the time elapsed after using this product. I have attached 3 pics showing the condition of my pool before using this product, the condition of the pool after 8 hours and the condition of the pool after 1 week. Hope this helps ! Good Luck !!!

I put about a cup of this once a week in my 30,000 inground pool and it keeps it crystal clear. Of course there is plenty of chlorine and cleanings. But I have not had any algae this year and this is the first year I have been using this.
