14 in. Prier Products Heavy-Duty Residential Diamond Series Wall Hydrant. Prier Products C-144 Diamond Series is a frost-proof, Heavy-Duty, anti-siphon wall hydrant with backflow preventer. Prier's C-144 is satin nickel plated for a long-lasting finish that will not rust or tarnish. The large flange is pitched to drain, has enclosed screw holes and is easy to install. The C-144 is connected to the supply piping in the heated portion of the structure, eliminating the possibility of freezing.
  • 1/2 in. MIP x SWT inlet
  • Satin nickel plated for long life with powder coated metal handle

Q:Can this be installed in a verical orientation?

Answer This Question

A:  No this valve was not designed to install in a vertical orientation. If you install this valve in a vertical orientation the water will not drain out when you shut it off. That retentive water could freeze and destroy the valve. For vertical orientation you would want a different type of valve such as a yard or roof hydrant which can be seen on Priers web site. This valves are designed with a drain to empty the water column then they are shut off.

    A:  No this valve is not designed, manufactured or approved for potable water. I am not aware of any frost free hydrants that that are. Valves that dispense potable water are deemed to be “faucets” under US standards and must comply with a specific set of ridged standards. Valves such as this frost free hydrant, which are also referred to as hose bibs or silcocks, are deemed to be for irrigation and not for potable water. Therefore they are regulated by a different set of standards.

      A:  Prier’s methodology for stating depth on frost free hydrants works on “bury death”. It is not the overall dimension of the hydrant. Let us use this 14” hydrant for an example. The measurement from the back of the flange that would mount against the house, to the tip of the incoming water connection would be 15”. The washer that shuts off the flow of water is 1” in from that. So the measurement from the back of the mounting flange to the point where the water is stopped is 14”.
