Q:The instructions say clear silicone (caulk) is required for installation. In what areas it is required? Around the perimeter of the guide? Around the mounting hole?

A:  Thank you for your inquiry regarding this item from Prime-Line Products. Use your own discretion. The silicone can be used around the inside perimeter to create a bond and form a seal.

A:  Sorry, but not sure about which Independence store you refer to. Used to live not far from the HomeDepot store in Independence, MO but now am located in Fort Smith, AR. Though I do seem to recall that with some items in the online catalog you can verify whether, or no, that particular item is only available in the online catalog or is also stocked in a given store. In point of fact when I ordered this item it was indeed from the online catalog and I had it shipped to the actual, physical(brick&mortar) store here in Fort Smith since having it shipped to the local store incurred no shipping costs other than me getting into the car and tooling off about 3-4 miles to the store when I rec'd an email(and/or cell-phone text)notification that it had come into the online fulfillment desk at our local HomeDepot store. Seem to recall something like 7-10 business days from the time of order placed online and notification that it was ready for pick-up. Hope this helps some!

A:  Don't recall whether or not mine did. Though I elected to attach mine with double-sided foam tape(exterior grade). Presumably the exterior grade double-sided foam tape(Scotch brand)has sufficient adhesion to hold something like this item to the bottom rail of a shower stall even given extremes of moisture and temperature encountered in one's shower stall. The main caveats there would be to insure the surface of the aluminum rail is spotlessly clean, and dry, before applying the foam tape. My application is going on at least a good long year and shows no signs of loosening.

Q:how does the guide stay in place and not move around. I don't see that it is self-adhesive?

A:  My unit had a fastening screw provided in the packaging. And there is a predrilled hole in the bottom surface of the door guide--presumably for inserting the included mounting screw so as to fasten it to your existing shower stall's frame. Please note that if your present stall's frame doesn't have a hole for such mounting already present(which mine didn't) then you'll need to do as I did--place door guide in its desired position (with the stall's doors either swung out or removed)--mark the position for drilling the pilot hole for the fastening screw on the bottom rail of the stall enclosure. Then, using a drill bit approximately 1/3-1/2 diameter of the fastening screw, drill your pilot hole in the appropriate part of the stall's frame. You don't want to use a drill bit as wide as the screw since the screw (typical sheet metal fastener type) will sooner or later become too loose. Alternatively you could use double sided mounting tape--provided such is rated fairly well in terms of holding strength, and is rated for wet applications. Or you could use the second sort of mounting option I almost went with--Gorilla brand glue. The main reason I didn't consider double-sided tape is that there was barely sufficient clearance between the bottom of the present doors and the guide's door channels. Adding even a smallish fraction of an inch to this guide's height would've made for doors in my shower enclosure having very restricted freedom of movement. But no matter what sort of adhesive you might use, if such is your mounting choice, take great care to thoroughly clean the appropriate surface of the frame--have that aluminum frame sparkling clean. And absolutely dry as the proverbial sack of sand. Fact is for a similar type of mounting for a bathroom wall fixture(using double-sided tape) I used Comet type cleanser to remove all foreign matter--grime or whatever. Then flushed same surface with water; then wiped it with isopropyl (a.k.a.: rubbing) alcohol using paper towels. Then let surface sit for another 1-2 hours, so as to insure all traces of alcohol evaporated, before finally applying tape or glue. One other caution--let tape, or glue, sit for a good long 24 hours before item is used (or you get any water on it). Such is always the best approach so as to allow whatever type of adhesive to fully "cure". Better yet if you can apply some sort of pressure(clamp or whatever) to the item, whilst the adhesive is "curing", your mounting will likely have a much greater durability. Sorry if I got a bit "long-winded" regarding recommendations but have had a few-too-many instructions for whatever product that were so minimal as to be next to worthless for the average d-i-y type of consumer. Hope this helps!

A:  There is a stainless-steel, flat-head Phillips, sheet metal screw included. A hole must be accurately drilled in the lower rail of the correct size so the screw cuts its own thread and fastens the guide. Be wary, the drill could pierce the plastic tub. Alternatively, the guide can be "glued" with a clear waterproof, silicone bath adhesive.

                    broke almost immediately
I bought this item to replace a guide that had broken after several years of use. I installed it, rehung the doors, and went about my business. About two weeks later, while I was taking a shower, the guide spontaneously fractured. Worthless item!
