I was excited to try a gas chainsaw but this one did not impress me as much as the case and scabbard did. Since this was my first gas saw, I found the instructions were lacking enough information for a novice gas chainsaw owner. They were not very detailed and the pictures are small & blurry. I am not a novice to chainsaws - I have easily used my 56V battery-operated saw for many years, but it was not a small task for me to figure out all the different steps for this gas-operated one. I had to turn to Google for instructions. The clutch cover was stuck and had to be pried off and after the bar & chain were installed, and it was awkward to reassemble - I am used to, and prefer, a no-tool option for opening the cover. Included are a plug wrench, a screwdriver, a bumper spike, and a chain file.
This saw is heavier than my cordless, it weighs 15 pounds before the oil and fuel are added. It does cut the branches, but with 2800 RPMs, it does not perform as well as my 6800 RPM cordless chainsaw. I was disappointed that there were no gauges for the oil or fuel tanks. I am sure this saw would be fine for most people, but I think I will remain an exhaust-free, quiet, cordless chainsaw fan!
Ordered the chain saw to replace an aging Echo18 inch bar unit. The saw comes mostly assembled with only the bumper spike, bar, and chain to install which is easy to do. It includes a chain guard, screwdriver, spark plug/chain tensioner tool, sharpening file, and a small lightweight carrying case. It requires 40:1 gas to oil ratio fuel and chain bar lubricant for its automatic oiling system. The carrying case opens conveniently both ways from the top. The saw started up fairly easily, ran smoothly, cut well, idled well, and starts right back up after sitting a period of time. The chain oiling system works well keeping the chain lubricated. The saw is about 3 pounds heavier than my 18-inch Echo but also has a 5 cc larger engine that produces excellent cutting power. The saw has a plastic air filter that is easier to clean than a foam one that also deteriorates over time which is a plus. The included instructions are good and complete. On the negative side the carrying case could be a little bigger to fit a few accessories normally taken to a job. The required 40:1 gas oil ratio is richer than my other 2 stroke tools that run 50:1, so I have to mix separate fuel for this saw. The saw starts fairly easily with the choke when cold, but it does not have a fuel primer ball, like most new small engine tools, that would help start the saw with fewer pulls of the starter rope. Except for these few negatives I think it’s an excellent chain saw.
My husband was excited to get this Ridgeline 18" gas chainsaw, and the wonderful case as well. Our older saw was wearing out and after reading about Ridgeline, we decided to try their new product. Instructions are easy, even though my husband has done this many times before. It didn't take him long to put it together. He likes the feel of it, the weight, and it appears to be very sturdy which you want for a chainsaw. The case is also sturdy and so nice to keep the saw in good condition. Another perk is a very sturdy cover too keep the saw-blade from dust, etc. He put in the gas, etc., and quickly turned it on to see if everything worked...it did. Then quickly shut it off as we are in a complete Stage 3 fire ban so NO gas-powered tools are allowed. We believe this will serve us well for many years and once the fire ban is lifted, we look forward to using it.
Well, this chainsaw was perfect timing as I had a lot of clean up on some mature trees. This chainsaw was quickly put to work on several hot, muggy evenings.
My observations:
• Assembly takes about 20-30 minutes and that is truly taking your time. You are basically attaching the bumper spike, bar, and chain.
• The directions are average. I’ve used chainsaws plenty so this was simple to pick up and use it for me. However, for a novice to chainsaws I would like to see directions that had more diagrams and/or even a link to some instructional videos for the product.
• Now let’s talk about using the chainsaw. It’s easy to use and handle. So easy.
• It’s lightweight. Which is wonderful for most people.
• Plenty of power for the 45cc engine. I had no issues getting through the trees, even the larger diameter cuts.
• I like the Automatic oiler. It worked just as I expected.
• This chainsaw advertises an anti-vibration system and indeed it works. Of course, there is some vibration, however it’s manageable and mitigated.
• I like the case. This makes it so easy to carry and store. I use some heavy-duty wall storage hooks (when storing) which work great with the case.
• After assembly, adding chain oil, and fuel; I had this running within 10 seconds.
• I found the noise levels to be expected and probably a bit quieter than other chainsaws I’ve used.
• I could find no quality issues on the unit.
I’m a fan. It’s easy to use, lightweight, it runs well, low vibration, comes with a case, and it runs well. I recommend.
Outstanding saw! I definitely recommend and would buy again....

Can't recommend
I have used all major brands of chainsaws pretty regularly for the last 25 years off and on. When I saw this offering from Ridgeline I decided to check it out and see how I liked it. It came with everything I'd expect including the 18in bar, chain, file, scwrench, and small screwdriver, and a sturdy case. When initially assembling the tool I had a hard time getting the blade cover plate back on as it didn't fit very well. Other than that everything seemed to fit well and fasten appropriately. I took it out to use it and that is where I ran into issues. I filled it with fuel and chain oil, and started it up. It started after a couple of pulls, and I let it warm up for about 2 minutes before I started to use it. When I pulled the trigger it started to rev up, then shut off. I started it again and it started on the second pull. At this point the engine started smoking, so I shut it off again. I thought it might be a fuel to oil mixture issue so I double checked that, but my mixture was correct. I checked the spark plug and it was seated properly. The engine appeared to be getting air through the filter so I tried to fire it up again, this time it wouldn't start at all. I haven't been able to get it started since then. Judging by the quality of the brand and other good reviews it appears that I just ended up with a dud. At this point I couldn't recommend the saw.
