18 in. and 22 in. 57 cc Gas Chainsaw Combo with Case

First impressions of this saw were not great. I'm replacing a chainsaw from a well known and establish brand. Compared to that one, everything about this saw feels cheap and "old". It has a choke, the on/off switch is a simple toggle, the handle is only partially padded, there's caps that don't do anything, etc. However, the well established brand one I am comparing it to broke within 2 years. First impressions aside, I think this is actually a decent unit. The power is really good. I'm not sure how much it can handle, but I do plan on using it with a chainsaw mill set up to cut some slabs. Despite everything looking and feeling sub par, everything works well. It's easy to set up, everything lines up nicely, even the case opens and closes easily every time and you don't need to be an origami master to get everything back in it. I'll be using a ripping chain on the 22" bar, but the included chain on the 18" bar was sharp and cut well. I've still got my fingers crossed but this saw seems to be a great value for the price

This is a serious beast for big jobs. I didn't realize how long a 22 inch bar would be - a bit shocking to see it laid out on my floor! This is the only chainsaw available on the Home Depot website with a 22 inch bar. To ensure sufficient power to complement this bar length, the Ridgeline chainsaw is powered by a 57 cc 2-stroke engine. The downside of this power is the weight of the product. HD site states 15.8 pounds - I believe it! The instruction manual is very detailed and generally well written. I do wish the pictures were clearer, even in the downloaded copy from the HD site they are grainy, which requires a bit more studying to figure out all the details. I decided to give it a try using the 18 inch bar. This was plenty long for my needs to cut some ~14 inch diameter logs into shorter pieces. I mixed up the gas and added the chain oil (which oddly the manual calls for SAE 10W-30 vs. bar and chain oil). My saw started right up, as per the instructions, and performed well for the short job I had in mind to get it up and running. Hopefully, she will stand the test of time when bigger jobs come to bear. I contacted customer service at fot-usa.com (as provided in the user manual) as my product arrived with only 1 of the 2 assembly bolts needed to mount the small guard at the front of the engine. They responded to my email within a day and were happy to ship me out the missing part. This was a positive. However, regarding other replacement parts, the link on the HD product page to "Replacement Parts List" actually opens up an EPA Certificate of Conformity. The "Use and Care Manual" only provides details on 3 replacement parts: Guide Bar, Chain, and Spark Plug. This makes me a bit nervous regarding other replacement parts, especially with only a 1 year warranty. The product comes well packaged and has a well designed carrying case. It snaps apart to allow you to put the saw into it with bar and chain attached, while minimizing the size of the case. I like the design of the case!

We're in the process of cutting down some pine trees which are damaging our privacy fence. This little chain had no problem at all doing the job. It's surprisingly lightweight for a 57cc motor. Love the 18" and 22" bar and chain sets. The carrying case holds everything nicely but seems a little flimsy. We're not sure how long it'll hold up. The chainsaw, itself, has worked perfectly so far. I'm giving 5 stars for the tool, not the carrying case.

The saw itself is very good. always room for improvement though. Such as an easy start system.The lower rating is because the the 22 inch bar scabbard is a poor fit to chain bar and the design of it is different from the 18 inch scabbard and will not work in the locking opening in the case provided for the 18 inch bar scabbard. There for you either have to either leave the bar exposed(unsafe and hazardous) or force the ill fitting scabbard supplied over the bar, still an unsafe design for transportation or storage. otherwise it would have gotten a 5 star rating.

Great machine - powerful and relatively light as far as the weight goes.
