Great for working on our truck and van!
I have been doing more and more of the auto maintenance for our family and it has been saving us a lot of money. With that, I planned a big project of doing brakes and a leveling kit on my truck. I picked up this 1/2 inch impact wrench to help with this because I knew my at home compressor wasn't big enough to run an air gun version. I am super happy with my choice! The Ridgid 18V system is my go to for tools and this Mid-torque 1/2 inch wrench is another awesome option. I used it to remove tire lug nuts as shown in the picture, but then to also remove another 30+ bolts as I installed a level and lift kit on my own in my driveway. This wrench was able to bust loose some very high torque bolts that have never been off on a 5 year old truck. I used a 24 inch breaker bar first and could not get one set of nuts and bolts to come loose, even after WD 40. I initially had used the impact, but then thought maybe I should bust it loose first, but I couldn't. Finally I put the impact into level 3 and let it rip. It took a few seconds and then it got it loose and everything was great! I really like the ability to use the different levels for different applications, but the best option for putting the nuts and bolts back on was the Automatic feature. This puts on the hardware until the torque starts to get higher and then the wrench shuts off on its own. This doesn't have a torque setting, but I would guess functions with a threshold of some type that makes it shut off. This was awesome for getting items put on, but then being able to use my torque wrench to get the exact amount of torque where I needed it. The only small negative is that the pin that holds the impact sockets on will not release the sockets like a standard roller ball version. To remove a socket I kept an extra Allen wrench around that I used to push the pin in. Any small metal piece can be used for this. The battery run time was awesome, the light helped as it got darker during my project and is obviously darker working under the back end of a truck. Overall this is an awesome tool and I highly recommend it!

      Impressive
This Ridgid 1/2” impact wrench is impressive. It removes tractor lug nuts with no effort. It didn’t even hesitate. Zipped them right off with out using a breaker bar. This is the mid-torque 1/2” model with the brushless motor. It has the pin detention which is a little tight for now. Also, this unit has 4 modes. I generally use the auto mode. It lists the impacts at up to 3,800 impacts per minute. I am pleasantly surprised by how well it works.

      An Excellent Impact Gun
This impact gun is great! I can’t believe how light it is for how much power is behind it. For a half inch impact gun, its on the smaller side, which is nice. The gun is also quite simple compared to other guns with different weird technologies built in that you never use. I’m quite impressed with this gun. If you need something simple and yet powerful, and built to last, this will do the trick.

Very useful Semi-compact, mid-torque, 3-speed brushless impact wrench
This impact wrench is well made, powerful, and has three speeds and an “automatic” speed feature. The auto feature slows it down and then stops as it tightens and controls the speed in reverse after the nut is loosened. It has 650ft/lbs break away torque and 500ft/lbs for fastening. Comparison to older Ridgid R86010 that I own: 1) Torque is almost double vs. R86010 at 325ft/lbs 2) Size/Weight a) About 3 ¾ lbs which is about ¼lb heavier b) Taller (see photos) c) Not as deep (front to back) (see photos). 3) The balance, with the 4ah battery pack, feels better. 4) The light is just above the battery pack instead of surrounding the anvil. In some circumstances this is more useful and in others it less useful. It would be nice to have lights at both positions. 5) This will not rotate as slowly as the older one; however, for moving a nut downwards on a bolt, it seems sufficiently slow for most needs. Note, the auto setting which is available on this new tool will likely replace the need for lower speeds. 6) 3 speed settings seem to offer more flexibility; however, for my uses they don’t really matter. Speed control on the R86010 was easily controlled by the trigger. The trigger based speed control on this new one is comparable. Good to Know: 1) Despite the auto mode, the instructions recommend using a torque limiting device for automotive lug nuts. 2) The pin detent to hold a socket is awkward. Unlike any other socket wrench of any sort, that I have used or own, this REQUIRES placing a nail or other object into the hole on the socket to depress the pin in order to release the socket. Having to find something else just to remove a socket is NOT the way I want to work! Ridgid makes another version of the same tool with a friction fitting on the front and I recommend that instead unless you have a special need for non removable sockets. If it were not for this, I would rate this 5/5. Summary: This is a good tool, quite powerful, with some useful features (e.g. auto mode). I expect I will use it exclusively over my older tool. I recommend buying the version with the friction fit on the anvil rather than the version with the detent pin for the reasons noted above.

Great Mid-Torque 1/2" Brushless Impact Wrench
I love not having to drag my air hoses out onto my driveway anymore to work on my vehicles! The worst part was winding up the 100' or so hose to put it away nicely without kinks or twists. Wait a minute! I missed something...Do I really want to unfurl/furl the hose again? No more of that! This is my second Ridgid 3 Speed +Auto Impact Wrench. I got the Low-Torque model with the Friction Ring Anvil a few months ago. This new one is the Mid-Torque model with the Detent Pin Socket Release. They look almost identical. The Mid-Torque model with Detent Pin Release is R86012PD. The Mid-Torque Friction Ring Anvil model is R86012. The Detent Pin acts like a tether. The socket will not come off without inserting a small blunt object to depress the Detent Pin. This will be very helpful for those working high up on scaffolding, or heaven forbid, from dropping a loose socket in an engine room (never to be seen again--only heard in rough seas). I love the Auto Mode. You can select three speeds or Auto. When Installing, Auto Mode stops when impacting begins. When breaking nuts loose, Auto Mode stops when impacting stops. This prevents those with happy trigger fingers from overtightening or conversely uncontrolled spin-off. The Electric Brake works rather well. I'm now giving a neighbor all of my 25 year old pneumatic tools. They've saved me thousands of dollars over the years. I believe these Ridgid 18V Brushless Tools are a good investment and will pay dividends for years to come.

      Another solid tool from Ridgid
Just like most, I’m moving from old large power tools to all compact hand tools. The Rigid impact wrench as a “tool only“ (no Battery) checked all my boxes. I have several Ridgid tools and batteries, so I got it. I like the compatibility of batteries and the Free Parts and service for life warranty. I haven’t had the use the warranty on any of my Ridgid tools that I have had for 6+ years. The weight is less than my big 18V tools. The trigger pull is really nice and smooth to give you good control over the speed selection. The pin indent ball is big enough to keep the socket on but not so big you need a screw driver to remove the socket. This impact is going to make set up changes on my grinding wheels, rock polishers and rock saws so much easier. I’m totally satisfied

Awesome 650 ft./lbs. of torque and a variable 3-speed trigger
The impact mechanism on this upgraded impact wrench produces 650 ft./lbs. of torque, and has a variable 3-speed trigger to provide speed control. The auto-tightening mode automatically stops when fastening bolts to prevent over tightening, and when in reverse mode, will stop when the bolt is loose. Nice. Has a brushless motor for increased efficiency and runtime vs. a brushed model. This impact wrench has a detent pin which is a spring-loaded ball bearing that projects out of the pin shaft into a hole or detent, locking the pin in place and holds the socket onto the driver. The retaining pin must be pressed in with a nail or hex key to release the spring pressure to remove a socket. Whereas, other models have a hog ring, which works like a snap ring fitted around the square socket drive groove.

      Great features!
The RIDGID 18V Brushless 4-Mode 1/2 in. Mid-Torque Impact Wrench Kit with Pin Detent goes along with all my other Ridgid tools, which I have found to be first-class. One little surprise is that the impact driver included the belt clip that is extra on all the other tools. Lots of torque for all those applications where a drill just won't do the job, yet surprisingly small and handy. It also has a light built into the base. Ridgid has a wide range of tools that all take the same battery, which makes it a good brand to go with.

      Awesome Mid-Torque impact wrench!
This Ridgid 18v brushless 4 mode 1/2in drive mid-torque impact wrench is awesome. This impact gun is perfect for the average to intermediate DIYer and even light commercial use. Specs say it's rated for 650ft/lbs or peak breakaway torque and 500 ft/lbs peak fastening torque. This thing is perfect for vehicle lug nuts and larger fasteners that can be hard to break loose by hand. Choose between the 4 modes to limit how much power it puts out, or leave it in auto for full power to remove fasteners easily. The size and weight of this impact gun is perfect and the quality of ridgid has always been good for me. The pin detent on the drive end could be a little better, sockets slip off a tad bit too easily. Otherwise very happy with this impact gun. I had an older model of this impact wrench which I will probably gift to a friend as it still works great.

      Goodbye lug wrench!
When I was younger, removing lug nuts wasn’t a big deal. Now that I’m older and hopefully wiser, I needed a better tool than my lug wrench. RIDGID recently introduced a mid-torque impact wrench that meets my requirements. There are a lot of competitors/products in this market that meet/exceed my requirements, so what made me select the RIGID 18V Brushless 4-Mode ½ in. Mid-torque Impact Wrench with Pin Detent? Features and price are the answers. Let’s talk about the features. There are 3 speeds and an automatic tightening mode. In this mode, the wrench uses the maximum breakaway torque until it senses that the bolt/nut is tightened or loose. It’s the only mode that I plan to use. There’s an LED light below the grip works but I prefer it higher on the tool. As the name implies, this tool has a pin detent but it is also available with a friction ring instead. This tool has a “twin” built by Milwaukee. Typically, I’d expect it to be slightly underpowered and less expensive. In this case, it delivers more torque (650 ft-lbs. vs. 600 ft-lbs.), impacts/minute (3800 vs. 3200), more RPMs (2800 vs. 2300), AND is less expensive to boot! Truly impressive! Another huge feature is the Lifetime Service Agreement! I’m not aware of any other tool manufacturer that matches this! I purchased two batteries about a month ago to use with another RIGID product, so I was pleased to find that I could find a “tool only” offering. If you already have batteries and a charger, this is a deal! Otherwise, I’d recommend that you purchase a package. I have no problem giving this tool a high rating.
