MY GO-TO DRILL !!
RIDGID 18V subcompact 1/2" Drill/Driver is a perfect size !! This is a my go to drill for most needs. Solid feel and very easy to handle with great torque, easily adjustable torque setting, very quiet, and all backed by RIDGID's Lifetime Service Agreement (free parts and service). I’ve used this drill for screwing down subfloor and had to set the torque low to keep the screws flush! (Yes, the torque is that good!.)
This is smaller than my Gen5 drill as pictured but still has as much punch!! You will not be disappointed with this drill. I highly recommend the RIDGID subcompact line. Now that my wife finds it very easy to use, I may not get it back!

Power in a Small, Easy to Handle, Package. Great for first Drill/Driver Purchase!
This is a good quality small drill/driver from Ridgid. This subcompact driver is amazingly powerful for its size and would be my first choice if buying my first drill/driver again.
Compared to other Ridgid drill drivers and another manufacturer’s drill/driver it is much smaller and lighter (see photos) and nearly as powerful as the larger Ridgid drill/driver. The standard Ridgid Drill Driver has 1800 rpm and 525 in/lbs torque. This tool has 1750 rpm and 425 in/lbs torque. While there is about 20% less torque, more often than not, I don’t need the power. Much more often, I DO NEED a tool that can be used in smaller places.
If you don’t own Ridgid yet, consider getting this with the battery (kit number R87012K). At the time this review was written, the kit sold for the same price as the stand-alone tool.
Good to Know: The tool balance is just so/so with Ridgid’s 4ah battery. I find myself wishing I had one of the 2ah batteries for this tool. So, even if you own other Ridgid tools, if you don’t have a 2ah battery, I’d recommend getting the R87012K kit.
Conclusion: I’m definitely happy to have this small and powerful drill/driver as part of my tool kit. I expect this will become my everyday tool and the larger version which I already own won’t be used very often. I just wish I already had the 2ah battery!

This drill/driver is proof the articles that have come out recently predicting the demise of drill/drivers in favor of impact drivers is WRONG. The Ridgid R87012B is one of the best tools in its category. You get the controls that are required. First you get the adjustable grip drills are known for, then motor speed control followed by a dedicated drill setting ahead of the torque adjustments for exacting drive control. Your able to drill in wood, fiberglass, plastics and various metals like aluminum, copper, brass, iron and steels. All of these materials take speed control that this drill/driver presents to the user.
Use the following for a guide to drill chuck adjustments as follows;
1-4 For Driving Small Screws
5-8 For Driving Screws into Soft Materials
9-12 For Driving Screws into Soft to Medium Materials
13-16 For Driving Screws into Hardwoods
17-23 For Driving Large Screws

Nice Drill/Driver!!!
This is a nice drill/driver with lots of features. I really like the ultra precise speed control when I slowly press the variable speed trigger. I weighed the drill/driver on my digital scale and it weighed in at 2 pounds. I drove some screws into a piece of wood and it worked well for that. It came with a two ended bit, a bit holder, and belt clip. Over all, this a nice drill/driver with lots of features.

Powerhouse of a tool!
A powerhouse in a small frame! Sometimes you need a lot of power in a tight spot, and my other tools were a little too large to work with in tight spots, like underneath a vehicle. This is a ½” Drill/Driver and packs an enormous amount of torque in a very small frame, yet accepts bits and drivers up to a half inch! Having used the Home Depot RIDGID brand in other tools for over a year, there was no hesitation in getting this little workhorse. I have batteries and a charger, and this was sold as Tool Only, so it was a very good deal. With an 18-volt battery, the ‘small’ tool delivers over 400 pounds of torque, enough to loosen almost anything! It’s brushless, so it should last a very long time. Like most tools, it has two speed levels with the variable rpm on either setting. It’s very light compared to other drills, even with the same size battery and works hard! The variable clutch has 24 settings, so it can drive any screws or lag bolts into even treated wood with ease. Other niceties include the LED light for working in tight areas, the reversible belt hook and reversible screwdriver, which stays tight in its own little keeper. Slide it in easily, it won’t come out. And don’t forget to register your tool within 90 days to obtain your Lifetime Warranty for free parts and service.

This new design is a nice improvement to the compact line up. This works flawlessly with any of Ridgids 18V batteries, I have some older Li-ions and tried them and they worked no problem as well as the newest Octane versions. Without a battery the drill has a nice overall weight and feel. easy to hold and comfortable. the weight really comes from the battery. so depending on what size you use, your mileage will vary. With the largest 9 ah battery the drill does become heavy, which is not typically an issue for DIY work. the weight comes into play if you are doing a lot of work and are holding the drill for long periods. I added a comparison photo to the review so you can see the size difference compared to a compact version and the sub-compact. I also compared it size wise to the newer compact Dewalt 20v drills and it is comparable in size. I drilled 20 2 inch screws into pine studs using each drill and the same battery. Performance was identical on both which was impressive. both drills got slightly warm toward the end. The difference it did notice is that this brushless drill is a bit quieter and also there is a momentary delay when you press the trigger, similar to that split second delay when you turn on an LED light. something you will soon forget but I did notice it. I have used this on several small projects around the over the past 3 weeks, not one negative to mention. I did not install the belt hook, I always add them but never end up using them. This has an LED light in the base where the battery connects which lights the work area well. and is activated by a small switch on the trigger which allows you to light the area without having to engage the drill. I didn't bother providing run times as it will be completely dependent on the battery you chose

I love that this drill is small and light enough to easily use one-handed (I have small hands and have struggled with the balance of the larger Ridgid drills). Plus it fits easily into tight spaces! And all without sacrificing power or durability. Really love having this on hand for any and all kinds of projects.

This subcompact drill is very easy to maneuver in tight spaces, and light enough to hold in awkward positions. It has an LED light to see in dark or shady spots, and a comfortable non-slip grip. I'm really liking how easy this is to use, and still has 400 lbs. of torque. Since this hand tool is compatible with my other RIGID tools, I can use the same batteries and chargers. This is a great hand tool, and has a super warranty.

Sometimes it is necessary to have two of something around the house. In my case, we are a husband/wife team and jobs go a lot faster if we each have tools. This drill/driver runs on batteries we already own because most of the tools in our shop are Ridgid. This particular model is smaller in stature that our other one, but it has plenty of power for everything we will need it for. The torque is easy to change on the front dial. Everything about it is solid and made for work and it is a bonus that it fits in smaller hands.
