Can I mount this with proper anchors right into my cement patio floor? I have new siding and re...

Asked by Babaluie April 9, 2021

My spouse is a professional contractor (not just a handyman) and if properly installed you should have no problem attaching it to your siding (with proper stud alignment) if not then by all means use the proper cement anchors and shields to install. Make sure you test for clearance and drag on the unit so as to operate properly when installed. Good luck

is the hose 5/8 or 1/2 inch?

Asked by marine March 27, 2021

I know I thought the same because it says 5/8... but some interior mechanism is not 5/8 so the pressure isn't the same as a normal hose from your homes outlet. We plan to take this baby apart and see if it's something simple and we can remove whatever restrictor is causing the water pressure decline if not then we're still happy it's not our main hose for the house.

warranty? neighbor bought for me a little Over a year ago in the hose is splitting?

Asked by patti February 26, 2021

Most likely you've been leaving the water on with the end capped off - so the hose ends up being stiff and pressurized. That's a big NO NO - especially with a wind-up device like this that demands a soft flexible un-pressurized hose. How do I know --- because I use to do the same thing :-)

Can this be mounted on aluminum siding?

Asked by Withn1 July 7, 2020

Hello Quince, I used a little imagination and I mounted on 13 by 9.as shown in the picts. PS: I have one mounted in side coz the would not reach around the house and they are working great. Little tip: Here in Chicago its Could in winter and hot inthe Summer. I spray DW insight with empty 'hose' to lubricate for 10 minutes in the Falls and another round in the Spring so that 'Springs' will retract the hose better. I bought both 3 years ago. Best Of luck! Can this be used with HOT water?

Asked by Jude June 12, 2020

Hi Jude, I apologise for my late feedback. Honestly, I have not used on Hot water. But, due to this hose it is quiet flexible, I think should work. PS: I have set of 2 of these units one on each side of the house for a good 3+ years and no issues just yet. Bets of luck! Parafino

For wood post mounting, what SIZE LAG BOLT/SCREWS for the MOUNT?

Asked by Corlinho May 9, 2020

Used a 4x4 post and then a 2x6 on top of that. Then I used 3” #8 exterior deck screws and mounted the hose reel to the 2x6. Note- the 2x6 was glued and screwed to a notched out ( depth to receive the 2x6) 4x4 post. Post was set in concrete to hold the reel.

Its a perfect fit for me! We just moved and we have a 2 car garage, single door with the hose bib located in the center of the garage on the back wall. How convenient it is for me to pull my hose out with the 2 cars in the garage and then for it to return to its home position with a simple tug. The unit swivels when its needed to pull the hose out. One of the best items I bought for a long time now. Highly recommend.

I loved this so much that I had to buy a second one for the other side of my house. I have messed with those other retractable hose reals and nothing compares to the ease of use of this model. The best thing is that you can disconnect it and store it inside during the winter, so easy to carry and handle. You can also mount it at a height that you wont destroy the flowers and shrubs when using it.

So Far So Good...
I read all the reviews, and this looks like it will last about 2 or more years according to all I read. That said, I ordered it as it seemed to be a balance between a good working, reasonably priced retractable reel, and a well built expensive one at times the price. I figure if I get two or more years out of it I can buy 2 more for 6 years, or $300 for one that lasts that and longer. It arrived promptly. It was heavy, but 5/8" hoses do that. The hose was of better quality than I expected and see no issues with it lasting a long time. Brass fittings on the hose. No problem on installation. I used 1 3/4" x 1/4 Stainless TapCon screws into a concrete block wall instead of the anchors that were sent. I know the Tapcon's are good and I had no experience with their wall anchors. (Tapcon brand are a sturdy concrete anchor screw.) The only issue here was the pivotal arm that holds it, is a plus and a minus. It pivots away from the wall or rests flush to it. At level it tends to swing out by itself due to its own weight I am guessing. I angled it down slightly so it would stay close to the wall but that didn't work. It still wanted to move away from the wall. So I put a small hook in the wall and used a short hook screwed into the plastic high up. I put a small 1/8" line/rope to hold the unit close and parallel to the wall. It is not tight and has been holding well. Decorative chain would have looked better or a door type hook and eye. If it eventually pulls out I will unreel the hose and use a through bolt with a nut. With the hose unreeled I can reach my hand in their to hold the nut and washer. The hose is 5/8" and pulls out and retracts as described. Since it is spring loaded I will not leave it pulled out for long, and when retracting I will empty the water before putting it away. I will leave the water off when reeled in. In South Florida the ocean atmosphere leads to corrosion and rusting. If that happens before I think it should I will update, but it may be a couple of years... I hope...So far...so good. Ill keep it.

The hose reel works and looks great
All seems good except they ship bolts for masonry only so you need to purchase your own washers and lag bolts if attaching to wood.

We haven't had this hose for very long, so I cannot comment on its longevity, but so far I absolutely love this auto hose reel. It was easy to install, it will be a breeze to remove in winter, and it is a joy to use. I absolutely hated our last hose reel it tipped every time you had to pull it from a distance. Not so with this one. I only hope it stands up to time! The valu was excellent with free shipping from home depot!

Good Product but no lag screws
The reel seems to work very well and the quality also seems very good. I just hope this will last a long time under frequent use. I live in Arizona and use my hoses daily. I would have given it 5 stars had the unit come with lag screws instead of just concrete anchors. I don't know about everyone else, but I don't have concrete walls. I must mount to studs. This was not a 5 minute job either, I had to go to the hardware store and buy lag screws as well as a piece of wood to mount the bracket because the bracket holes do not match the stud spacing. I know not to mount to one stud only from a previous bad experience with a flat screen TV. Whoever designed the bracket should have taken this into consideration. I guess you are supposed to mount this to a concrete wall only which is a poor assumption in my opinion.
