Electric pole saw
I like it, plenty of power for my needs. I cut up to 8 inch diameter palo verde limbs, also some 4 inch mesquite branches. It gets a little heavy when fully extended but I’m a 72 year old man with some health issues. All in all a great product.

Plenty of power - easy to use
Bear in mind as you read this, that I am a 76 year old female – that becomes very important in determining the usability of products like this extended pole chain saw. Buying this was an extravagance for me because I already had an old electric "chain saw on a stick" that worked perfectly fine. But since I already had the battery and charger from my purchase of the Ryobi extended hedge trimmer, I thought it might be worth it to so if this saw might be a little easier to maneuver. I was not disappointed. While the overall weight of the two saws is almost identical, the balance is very different. Having the somewhat heavy battery at the far end from the saw almost acts as a counter-weight and I found it not nearly so tiring to use. As I observed earlier from the hedge trimmer, I am impressed with the engineering of the Ryobi products. I particularly like the style and location of the power switch. I did however find the handle not useful because of its location near the bottom of the pole so I removed it to get it out of the way. It's a lot easier to grab the pole further up and the rubberized coating makes that very easy. All in all, a great product. What would make this go from great to perfect would be if the saw itself was completely detachable from the pole – then I wouldn’t have to drag out another saw for the clean-up.

Handle oriented in wrong direction - defective unit never used.
The pole saw handle orientation was installed incorrectly from the manufacturer so that the chainsaw blade was facing up, rather than down. Wasted about an hour making sure I wasn't crazy and misreading the instructions. Returning first thing tomorrow. Unfortunately, hesitant to repurchase for fear of wasting my time again.

Big Tool in a Small Package!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] A coworker bought one of these and let me use it at home to trim an olive tree. I was so impressed that I bought one for work where I'm a facilities director for our church. This pole saw easily cut large 4 and 5 inch tree limbs off several large trees. This tool is a beast! Just make sure you have ample supply of chain oil on hand so the blade doesn't dry out.

Ryobi One Pole Saw to the Rescue
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Had this monster tree on the corner of our garage and has been a nuisance for 15+ years. We've trimmed it sever times but the time came to replace the tree with a US Flag Pole. It worked like a champ. Only suggestion is to make the oil reservoir check view clearer to see the oil level better.

              Nice saw, major design flaw
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Saw cuts well and does its job. BUT, it has a major design flaw that makes it nearly worthless. The adjustment block (tension) pin for the chain is made from a very soft metal. Mine arrived bent. I have had to hammer it back into shape 3 times in the period of a week. When the block bends, the chain comes off the bar. You can only safely fix this while working at a workbench. It is not a fix to do i the field. I am going to have to return this.

                Very powerful little motor
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Very efficient. Because it does not run at the speed of a regular chainsaw, the battery lasts a very long time. Excellent tool

This chainsaw on a extendable pole works great! Always make the undercut first! Battery has power and lasts long and charges pretty fast! By itself it is not really heavy but still It is not for the muscular weak though because of the weight of something on the end of approx 10’ length is amplified! A person of 120 pounds that has upper body strength could use it but it really needs upper body strength! I am 63 with small deteriorating muscles! I love it even though I struggled, because it does the job very well! Get it and a regular Chain saw to cut up the offal and you are in business! It cuts easily 5” diameter limbs! I haven’t tried bigger but I am pretty sure it could cut 6 to 8” limbs as well! Undercut first though! Keep oil in it! Great product! Very pleased!

Should have bought one of these a long times ago. Cut through branches like butter, and no need for a ladder until I got really high. Trimmed 4-5 trees in the first afternoon. Doesn’t use much oil, and is easy to adjust and tear down for clean-up and storage. Battery life is good with the 40v, and the weight is not bad.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought the 40v trimmer today after going back and forth on whether to get the 8V or the 40. Very pleased, trimmed a large tree in my front yard, two in the back, and part of my neighbors. I already had a 5.0AH battery with my mower, but I also used the 2.0 just too see how long I could cut. Both did well, and I’m very pleased with my purchase.

The pole saw took about 5 minutes to set up and put together. The battery came fully charged. Its not a super light weight tool but it is well balanced once you put the shoulder strap on. I did test out the motor and functions and it appears to work properly and have a good deal of power. Unfortunately we have had bad wintery weather here since I have owned it so I have not gotten a chance to actually cut into a tree with it yet. Its sharp looking and I am sure will bring me many years of service. Ryobi has become my go to cordless power tool. I highly recommend this. Its not meant for commercial use but for the average homeowner this unit will cut what you need to remove. Its not intended to cut trees down but rather to limb the trees It all breaks down nicely. My only suggestion to Ryobi would be to add a carry pouch to hold it when its not put together.

This review is for the RYOBI 10 in. 40-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Battery Pole Saw 2.0 Ah Battery and Charger Included. This saw performs very well it cuts through branches with very little effort on the user’s part. It’s a little tricky using it in the beginning but once you figure out how to balance the saw it really does do the cutting for you. The saw comes with a chain saw wrench for adjusting the chain slack and securing the bar and side cover. It does not come with any bar and chain lubricant so be sure that you get some before the first use of the saw. The saw comes with an optional extension bar for added length. I would suggest using the saw without the extension or at least practice balancing the saw without the extension, then when you feel comfortable operating the saw add the extension if needed. This is another fine product by RYOBI.

This is going to be a combined review of the Ryobi 40v cordless electric hedge trimmer and the Ryobi 40v cordless electric pole saw, which I got at the same time. I really could have used these this past fall, but now all that work is done ( by hand !!! ) and it is winter and I need to get this review in. My brother has had the Ryobi 40v cordless electric string trimmer for several years, and that is a beast that really gets the job done. He says he can do his entire property on one battery, although he has two. These two tools are in the same line. Build quality looks excellent. Many tools like this adhere to a standard of interoperability, even across brands, but since these are electric, they have wires in the pole, not a spinning drive shaft, and so you can't swap in a gasoline powerhead, for example. They are, however, interoperable amongst themselves. The included extensions will fit any of them, which means you can train them together. This can give extraordinary reach, something that my gasoline saw lacked. This crippled it for much of what I was doing, left me hand-sawing until my shoulder gave out. The joints between the extensions are beefy plastic and seem quite strong. Ryobi tools are homeowner-grade. That means they are well-built, but not up to every-day use. A professional landscaper would probably run these to death in one season, but they should last a lifetime of occasional use for a homeowner, without breaking the bank. I do not hesitate to buy Ryobi. Battery-powered is great - no cords, no fuel, no primer, no why won't this d@%& thing start. By staying in the same product line, you get multiple batteries and chargers without having to buy extras. Based on my impressions of these two tools and my brother's experience with his, I would recommend all of them.

I selected this Ryobi pole chainsaw because i have several Ryobi products and they all perform quite well. This unit uses the same battery pack that some of my other outdoor products use. Assembly is quite easy and i had it all hooked up but i realized it did not come with chain blade lube so a quick trip to the local hardware was required. The task at hand was to trim some rather narrow branches that were scraping my vinyl siding in the front of my house and hitting my bay window. Having the extra reach was a plus and the unit cut thru them effortlessly.Balancing the unit when i had my arms outstretched was a bit awkward due to the arthritis in my hands. That was a bit painful but that's just me. Next time i will use a ladder .Come spring i will be getting alot more use from this saw. It also comes with a chain tightening tool..Be advised to bring the saw to full speed before attempting to cut branches or the chain will bind up and stop.

This pole saw cuts up to 4 in. limbs like they were butter! I have never had a saw that cut this well that wasn’t a gas saw. I’ve had a manual pole saw for several years but it has been awkward to saw back and forth with a saw on the end of a long pole. This 40v saw has enough power so that the limbs don’t stand a chance. You can operate it either as a 10 ft or remove a section of the pole and have a 7 ft pole saw. Most of what I’m cutting can be reached with the shorter version (dogwoods, hollies, camellias). My only caveat is that the cutting blade on the end of a 10 ft pole is unwieldy and requires right much upper body strength to keep it from dropping down after a limb has been cut. Be sure to read the instructions to help prevent that kind of accident.

I have always had a pole saw, but this is my first powered one. It doesn't telescope, but you can use one or two extensions to vary the length. It cuts fast and quietly for a chain saw; it went thru a two in thick branch in a few seconds. You need chain oil to run it, but they remind you of that on every surface of the box. My cheap old chain saw leaked oil from the start, this is a quality machine that leaked nothing. They have a built in edge to prevent the work from vibrating, and a two part trigger to prevent accidental starts. To compensate for the heavy head held far from your body, they have a handle, a large, adjustable forward handle, and a shoulder strap. Its 2ah Li battery charged initially in less than an hour. The chain saw head can be replaced with several other available tools.

I have in the past used a electric pole saw but the extension cord was always in the way. This cordless Ryobi pole saw does the trick for me. With the 40 volt lithium battery it allows me double the work time with the battery. This 40 volt battery does the job and more to drive the chain saw. Cuts through small branches and up to 8 inches in diameter branches with ease. The pole adjusts up to a maximum size of 9-1/2 feet for easy reach cutting from the ground level without having to perch on a ladder and a 6-1/2 foot collapsed size. The angled cutting head is set at the right angel to give maximum control of the saw cutting. Has a built in oil reservoir to lubricate the chain and guide bar. A 10 inch chain is equipped with the saw for maximum cutting diameters. Once the battery requires charging, it will be reconditioned at every charge for peak performance. A diagnostic readout on the charger provides a battery status for ease of use. The unit is well balanced using the shoulder strap and handle provided.

It’s the end of Decemberin the Midwest so not much tree trimming will happen. I did get nice afternoon and gave the new pole saw a chance to show me what it could do. I cut through several 1 inch and a 3 inch branch and the Ryobi pole saw didn’t have any trouble cutting these branches, no slowing down and did not seem overwhelmed at any time. The tool comes with 2 three ft. extensions, one extension must be used at all times due to the “male/female” connectors, this makes it difficult to use for some lower branches but lets face it, the idea of this sawis the reach. The box does not contain any Bar and Chain oil so you will need to have some before you begin using the saw, Overall this is a great tool.

                        • this Ryobi pole saw comes with everything you need to run it except bar chain oil. So don't forget to put in bar chain oil before you use it the first time. Assembly was very easy took less than 10 minutes. The chain itself has a protective sheath on it. The handle is adjustable for your comfort, as is the shoulder strap. The battery comes slightly pre-charged but I would recommend fully charging it before its first use. The handle comes in sections and one section is removable if you don't need the full extension.

I'm sure the 2ampH lasts long enough, but I used my other 3ampH and it does last a while. Intending on using this to help cut the brush on side of the house as well as the Tri blade attachment of the weed eater. The strap is a nice though to help even things out. Highly recommend.

worked as advertised. One thing beware of storing the tool upright with oil inside it. All the chain oil ran down the pole and saturated the grip foam and left a pool of chain oil on my shop floor. No where in the manual did it warn about this and the chain lube reservoir cap was tightened securley.

Works well, but a little top heavy (saw and motor at end of pole) and difficult to lift. Adding extension to pole only makes worse.
