Q:I saw at least two answers posted by Ryobi that the extension bit AC21EXT can be had for this item and gave contact information. I followed the advice and it could not be bought. Be careful if you rely on having the extension before buying the augur.

Skeptical...but not anymore
I was skeptical about a battery operated post hole digger. Well, not anymore. This thing made short work of 13 post holes. Now, if you are expecting to encounter roots, I recommend the slow speed of the 2 available. If you hit a root, smaller than say your pinky, yeah, it will cut through it. Anything bigger? It will come to a screeching halt and kick back some towards the left. No harm done, blue light comes on telling you this. Great product, recommended.

Compacted dirt, clay and rocks…

Amazing tool 100% recommend
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This was my first 40v tool from Ryobi. I bought it because the ground at my place is horrible to dig, rocks, caliche, clay, roots, all of it. I had to put in fence posts to separate my yard in to sections for my chickens and I wanted to plant about a dozen trees, I dug 1 hole by hand and then coughed up the money for this. It was 100% worth it. It cuts through the earth and moves the rocks. The brake on it is strong and powerful. If you have ever had an auger torque and jack your shoulder you know that terror right before it happens. This machine doesn't do that. Right before you get that "oh no.thisbis going to hurt" thought this kicks off for safety. The battery life on the 4ah battery is surprising. I dug 7 holes 2-3 feet down and used half a battery. Planted 10 shrubs and trees another weekend on a single charge too. I wish Ryobi would take the same tech and make a 40v trenching tool to run pvc irrigation lines and such. I would buy it in a heartbeat. I have a few 40v tools but this one was hands down the best decision I made in that line.

Worth the money
This is surprisingly a great bang for the buck! We have very hard compacted clay mixed with big chunks of sandstone in our yard that none of our older gas powered augers could drill through. I was skeptical going with a battery powered on this particular tool such as an auger, but man is it good. Cut right through the ground with ease. I only gave it 4 stars for a reason. Ryobi needs to sell these with a rapid charger, as the one it comes with takes about 2 hrs to get a full charge on. The anti-kickback feature is nice too.

Torque Monster Great for Small Fences Cos.

Awesome machine
I bought this auger to complete a fence that I was installing. I was very skeptical at first because I didn't think that a battery operated auger would do much. This machine was able to accomplish everything that I needed it to and then some. Not once did the battery run out while I was using it but it kept the same power all through the project. I was very impressed. I also really liked the anti-kickback feature. It was used multiple times due to big rocks that were in my yard.

Must Buy
Glad I made this purchase. Using the extensions and the 10 inch drill bit (both sold seperately), I'm drilling 42 inch holes to bury 8' by 6" poles for a horse fence. Stops automatically when it hits a root. Battery let's me drill about 4 holes on a charge. Should be getting a second battery in the mail in a few weeks. Six inches of dirt and the rest hard clay in North East Louisiana. No oil or gas to deal with. Easily handled by one person. I work at an office during the week.If you need an auger, I higly recommend.
