No this is a brushed motor

I know this is variable speed and it has a trigger lock . But will it lock ON at any speed . I need a drill i can lock at a low speed for a metal cut

DO NOT lock the speed control while using a hole saw in any material. If it binds up in the cut, you can potentially get hurt and maybe seriously (broken finger, broken wrist, etc). Always read the safety notes in the operation manual.

Bought this to replace my Black n Decker that stopped working (about 20 years old), while restoring one of my daughter's headlights. Feels solid, reliable, heavy duty, versatile and durable. My finger kept moving the speed control knob in the middle of the trigger. It should not be on the trigger. Must get used to the trigger to control the speed. The Lock-On button (like cruise control) only works at full speed. I don't think I will need the hammer, but you never know. This drill made restoring the other headlight so much easier because of the second handle or auxiliary handle. It was easier to control. It also made the second headlight look better than the first one. I re-did the first headlight and I even did my headlights. After that project, I know it can drill.

Got about 6 months out of it
So I got this because do need to add a concrete anchor to a addition I was building. Did that just fine. Then i have used it for a few holes here and there in the garage, mounting shop equipment. Well today, 2/28/2020, after about 6 months of use... This little drill actually caught on fire while I was using! This isn't to speak to the quality, I was pushing,it hard and SHOULD have slowed down. I used it to mix 7 bags of mortar mix for a table,i was pouring... Well the Ryobi that could, turna out couldn't.

Excellent hammer drill if you drill once in a while. If you are a professional, get something else that will help you cut through concrete with ease. This was a lot easier than using a cordless drill with a hammer feature, especially for the bit size we needed. I like the handle that was included to help support the hammer drill while in use.

This is an updated review. After using this drill, I can recommend it for many home drilling applications where the powerful 6.2 amp motor, the locking button and the ability to reverse direction make jobs like drilling through wood go easy. Holes in flower pot bottoms, not problem. Drilling through cinder blocks, not problem. Very sturdy and well built. Where it is not the tool of choice would be drilling lots of holes in thick, high density concrete. Or drilling through concrete with rebar cemented in. But for most around the house wood and masonry jobs, you would be hard pressed to find a better corded drill at this price point. One other thing, the Ryobi warranty and customer service are outstanding. They do take care of customers and they do care. They reached out to me and helped me use the tool correctly for the right jobs. Rare these days.

Got the job done!
We wanted to install blackout curtains in our condo. In order to do it we had to drill into the concrete ceiling. So we went to Home Hardware and looked are hammer drills. We choose the Ryobi corded hammer drill as it was the most economical and reliable hammer drill that would get the job done. We bought some masonry bits and drilled into the ceiling “like a hit knife through butter.” Easy to use and made the job easy. I highly recommend this hammer drill.
